HUGE portions. Came out fresh and hot. My only complaints are that because the portions are so big, I wish I had more sauce. It can also get quite hot in there. Other than that, it was a really cozy spot.

I'm not from around this area and I googled food near me and homestyle Hawaiian came up. Hawaiian sounded good I didn't even really know what Hawaiian food was. Anytime I think of Hawaiian food I think of a luau and a pig with an apple in its mouth. Its kind of in a weird location. It's between a dentist office and a Valvoline oil changing place. There's one lady that got out of her car and went inside and come back out right as I walked in. There was a lady sitting down and eating, a couple off to the side waiting for their food and a man asking how long it was going to take cuz he needed to run across the street real quick. Is really warm in there like they didn't have air conditioning on at all but they did have fans going but it was still really warm in there The doors were open It wasn't hot but it wasn't comfortable either Like I didn't stay and eat which I wanted to but I didn't because it was too warm inside. The couple's food was ready and they cashier handed them their food and then didn't say anything to me like hi how are you, Do you need help, What do you want, do you have any questions... he didn't say anything. He was young though not that's an excuse he needs to learn customer service, but he was super nice once I ordered. The menu has different types of food chicken beef I don't remember what else I do remember they had katsu chicken and lava chicken and the description of them is exactly the same One says it has HH sauce I'm assuming the HH is home styles Hawaiian The katsu chicken has it on the side and the lava chicken has a drizzled over the top. I thought it was strange that they had this item on there twice and it's the same exact thing when they could just say Do you want it on the top or on the side. The sauce is like a sweet BBQ sauce, but not too sweet it still had a barbecue kick in it. I'm not a fan but I don't really like barbecue sauce. I believe it's their signature sauce, I'm guessing, it's probably pretty good I'm just not a fan of barbecue sauces. I ordered the katsu chicken meal which came with white rice and it said on the menu macaroni salad or green salad, but he didn't ask me which one I wanted, just gave me macaroni salad which is what I wanted so I was okay with that. And I ordered a strawberry lemonade which is just a lemonade that they add strawberry flavoring and I couldn't really taste the strawberry. They only had two cups left so thank goodness to me I got a cup. I probably waited maybe 5 minutes for my food. I was there 10 minutes from when I parked to when I left the parking lot. The food was hot, macaroni salad was cold. I just don't think I was a big fan of the chicken with the batter or whatever the katsu crunchy part on the outside of the chicken is. I probably won't return. For people who like Hawaiian or who like katsu chicken it's a good place if you're in the area.
Parking: Not a lot of parking spots.

They don’t have Dole whip anymore, so if you’re going there, don’t be tricked by the only menu or “Dole Whip” sign in their window. The guy was nice and the food was good, but it was pretty pricy and took a while to come out. The food is a little bland, so make sure to ask for extra sauce, especially on the Katsu. They also don’t have fountain drinks, so be prepared to spend 2$ a piece of each can.

Loco moco egg was super overcooked, rubbery and the yolk was hard and chalky. Check the pics. I was looking forward to a runny yolk as they typically should be, but this cook didn’t put any care at all into the food. If you didn’t make a sunny side egg correctly, try again… don’t serve an egg so inedible that it could be thrown like a frisbee to the customer

Dirty, stinky and VERY poor service. Actually looks like migrants frm Mexico working as cooks..They look dirty too. Never coming back..
This place is intentionally great grub. I've been here about 6 times, different times of day, and different waiting times, based on how busy they are. The food, no matter what I'd ordered, has always been consistent. Mahalo!

Ordered to go. Korean Chicken - 1st pic: those brown spots are dried out & hard. 2nd pic: Katsu chicken - tasted plain. 3rd pic: battered zucchini- too much batter that zucchini did not stick to it, parts of batter was still raw. The macaroni mayonaise salad tasted plain. 4th pic: $10 wilted salad. We went around 6pm - maybe bad time to go. Maybe the food tastes fresh early in the day

I was recommended to Homestyle Hawaiian for some authentic Hawaiian food. My husband hasn't had chicken katsu in a long time. We ordered 3 plates and some musubis. Two katsu plates and a kalua pig plate. My husband was so deeply disappointed in the katsu. Katsu is a local Hawaiian dish that originally came from the Japanese plantation workers who settled in Hawaii. The name comes from the Japanese dish "tonkatsu". The breading from the katsu was coming off of the chicken and the katsu looked like it wasn't cooked for very long. The kalua pig was subpar at best. Also, the katsu sauce smelled like barbecue sauce and was not at all like the katsu sauce that my husband was used to in Hawaii.I saw a previous review from two months ago that says that this location is no longer owned by the same owners. Maybe that's why the food and overall quality has changed. If you were born and raised in Hawaii or have been a Hawaii resident for a long time, you will understand. Maybe this was just an overall bad experience, but unfortunately I don't think we would be back again when we are in San Diego.

I went here a few days ago and honestly, it was pretty good. I ordered the teriyaki chicken, but my only complaint is that it was too salty. I wanted meat lumpias but they ran out so I got the veggie ones, but they were more like veggie eggrolls than lumpias. Still good though, but for the price it wish it was more than 4 pieces.
I am sad that they no longer serve dole pineapple whip :( because I really wanted some. The fresh lemonade was good though, I like how they have different flavors. Definitely sweet, however I still suggest ordering it with light ice so that you get more drink. For $5 it is a big cup at least.
I like how close this place is to Southwestern College, so I can easily walk to it for a lunch. You could call it pricey as it can be about $20 per person if you get an entree and a drink and stuff. However, for me the portion is a lot, so it's good to share with 2 people or take leftovers.
All in all, I want to go back to try their fried musubi and see if they brought the meat lumpias back. Maybe even try the doughnuts. We'll see. Also I like the Moana drawing on the wall, it's really cute.
