The food was good not great, but the service was excellent. Ribs, and chicken tasty, just not really authentic BBQ. But for the price and ambience it was worth the drive. Really our waitress made the difference, she was thoughtful and pleasant.

Service was polite and friendly; Sunday late lunch was (thankfully) not crowded but I think the staff was all at lunch themselves because we had to wait a long while for utensils, drinks/waterand had to grab plates from another table because when we finally got our appetizers, we had no plates; and since the few servers that were around was busy going back&forth to the kitchen for pick-up, we just helped ourselves to plates from an empty table. My cousin didn't get her drink from the bar (watermelon Aperol spritz) either and even when we changed her drink to another flavor, it still took 15min for her to get the drink. It was a bit chaotic for an “after lunch” but once the servers got their groove, it was ok. The food itself is good. Different BBQ flavor from what we're accustomed to but good nonetheless. Much more citrus in the sauce but according to my cousins, they enjoyed the baby back ribs, the pulled pork, the brick chicken and the tri-tip.... flavor was all good. The chicken and ribs were a tad dry, but still flavorful. I had the house sliders and it was great! It hit the spot. :) the desserts were good too. Blueberry cobbler was a fave. The SMORES brownie needed more marshmallows but it was yummy (even though the ice cream was all melted by the time it came to our table)..... My friend ordered 2scoops of their expensive ice cream and it was all half melted in the bowl by the time it was served. Plus, they didn't give us any birthday dessert, even though I reminded them TWICE that we were celebrating 2 birthdays that lunch—my cousin's and my friend's. (They're lucky we were in a good mood and didn't bother to complain). Next time, I'll probably try the beef brisket just to see if their cooking is consistent. Pricey for lunch ($250 for 4ppl)but everything is expensive nowadays. Overall, a not-bad experience because the servers were very polite. we still gave our charming server 25% tip in cash. Hopefully their customer service will stay friendly too.

I came here on the weekend so the Claremont Village area was packed. I did have to park far and walk for errands. I was seated quickly at the bar since I came by myself.

I have been trying various brisket from restaurants in the area. This place had a ribs and 2 meat combo plate ($33.95), so I got their brisket, smoked sausage, and Memphis baby back ribs to try with their lemonade.

The brisket was tender with a good smoke ring, the table had bottles of various bbq sauce to try with the meats. The smoke sausage had a good snap and was moist. The baby back ribs were tender and came off the bone easily.

The place is loud with the tables filled with people inside and on the outside patio. They did have sports playing on the tv and people milling about the floor.
The wait time was not long and my platter arrived quickly.

The staff is nice and the place is clean.

Made reservations and was sat outside in cold . Food was literally brought freezing cold. Sent back and still charged the meal. Very disappointing.

Food was alright. The brisket is a little dry compared to real Texas brisket. The rice was also too spicy.
Otherwise the salad and queso tasted great.

I suggest trying the corn bread.

2nd time to eat at this location, but 1st time to be sitting outside. It was perfect! Our waiter, Aces, was great! 3 of us had breakfast; 1 had the blackened Salmon salad. The food was fine. The location is great.

Tried it for the first time & I would definitely recommend this place to anyone! Bbq is always a bit pricey but this place is 100% worth it! I got the grilled chicken & memphis baby back ribs with red skin potato salad & mac and cheese. Everything was so good! I recommend the blueberry lemonade as well, it’s tangy & sweet! Service was good, waitress was attentive and funny so that’s always a plus. Definitely recommend coming here with friends and family!

Dude food was great! Alyssa was the slowest! The booth next to us had 3 different parties in the time it took for us get our order. She's lovely but maybe overwhelmed with too much? We have no idea but we had to rearrange our plans for the entire night after dinner because we were there for so long!

I don’t think I’ve ever been as disappointed in food they claim to be southern style lol I’m from NC and I can tell you this food was absolutely horrible. The green beans were hard and crunchy. That’s not the way we cook our green beans in the south. The so-called Carolina style barbecue taste like it came out of a crockpot. And don’t get me started on the back beans it tasted like you were just eating raw onions.. The barbecue chicken I know they use a saltwater brine, but there was too much salt making the chicken salty. I will never go back unless they need cooking lessons.

I’ve been to Gus’s BBQ in Claremont many times, and every visit has been consistently great. Whether dining in or catering, the service is always top-notch. The staff is attentive, kind, and genuinely welcoming. Our most recent visit was for my daughter’s birthday—her one request was Gus’s mac and cheese. Our server, Kate, was incredibly sweet with her, and as any parent knows, you can tell a lot about a person by how they treat your kids. My wife and I really appreciated that extra kindness.

Since we went mid-week on a rainy evening, the restaurant was quieter than usual, which was a nice change from the typically lively weekend crowd. I started with an Arnold Palmer, which was perfectly balanced, and we shared an order of sweet potato fries—crispy, flavorful, and paired with an amazing dipping sauce (not sure what’s in it, but it was a hit with everyone).

For my main meal, I went with the ribs and two-meat platter, choosing St. Louis ribs, brisket, and jalapeño cheddar sausage. Every bite was packed with flavor, and I devoured it all. My sides—creamed corn and dirty rice—were just as good. To top off an already great meal, they brought out a sundae for my daughter’s birthday, which was such a thoughtful touch.

If you’re looking for great BBQ, a warm atmosphere, and excellent service, Gus’s BBQ never disappoints.

Ordered takeout -- sides were good, barbecue was mid. Brisket and ribs were overcooked and dry. Pulled pork was better. Grits and coleslaw were excellent.
