Harris Ranch Prime Steakhouse

My family and I drove 800+ miles to try Harris Ranch’s famous Mountain Oysters.

We came back in April of this year (2025) and we had ordered the dish and enjoyed it.

We were hoping to come back for more, but to our disappointment we came back Dec 2025 for more Mountain Oysters and the server told us that the dish was no longer served.

According to her, they got a new chef about a year ago and he changed and minimized the menu and completely eliminated our favorite dish all together.

(Somehow the timing doesn’t seem right, it was only 9 months ago when we’re last here.)

Now the selection looks dismal, nothing special you’d need to make a special drive to or stop by for a special occasion or any reason.

We stop here to take a break from our drive. Nice place to have lunch or dinner. They also have take out at the fuel station. But can get crowded. The other side has 3 places. A bar, an adult only, and family restaurant.

We've been coming here for decades. Always look forward to eating here when passing through southern to northern Cali and back. This time we were disappointed with almost every part of our meal and are hoping this was just an off night. The food was mediocre at best. The filet mignon was lovely, but the baked potato, Caesar, and veggies were such a disappointment. The Caesar wasn't even edible. The dressing tasted wrong, as in bad. Bottled dressing would have at least been edible. How do you mess up a Caesar salad?

Overall, this place is definitely no longer worth the price.

I will still buy meat at the store as their beef is so tender. But for a prepared meal, not worth the risk.

Overpriced. My sirloin was tough and lacked flavor. I tried it after years of driving bye and was highly disappointed.

Update: Came today and was upset by the service and change to the menu. We were not asked/given an option to change sides or reassured about the sides with our entrees. I've eaten calamari a million times in thousands of different restaurants, never had it come out topped with almond shavings smh there's a peanut allergy amongst us. There were 4 of us, we didn't recieve the table rolls till after our food came and we only got 2, wth are we supposed to split them. Then the redone calamari came after everything. Otherwise the entrees were good.

Had the Beef Liver, medium well, Excellent!
Ranch Burger, Awesome!
Pot Roast, succulent!

Amazing that such a place exists about midway between Bay Area and Los Angeles or Joshua Tree. Just got sliders and a Reuben but both were great.

We had an amazing lunch today at Harris Ranch!
I started with an amazing wedge salad! The blue cheese dressing and crumbles were so good!
Our steaks were cooked to perfection!
My potato had a delicious salt crust and the veggies were tasty too!
The Christmas decorations were over the top and very festive.

The steak was oddly cold and tasteless, like as if it was microwaved. Pretty disappointed as the restaurant was highly recommended to me. I enjoyed the bread and butter more. No complaints about the service.

The food at Harris Ranch Restaurant was underwhelming, and the service made the experience even worse. We were seated and then completely ignored; no one came by to offer water or take our drink orders, and we eventually had to flag down a random server just to get anyone to notice us. Our server kept disappearing, seemed impatient, and at one point they switched servers in the middle of taking our order because the original server was going on break, without handling the transition in a professional way.

On top of the poor service, the steaks were not cooked correctly. We ordered our steaks medium rare, but they came out rare, and the kids’ steak was a slim, fatty, burned piece of meat. The food overall just was not that great, and basic items like bread for the table only arrived after specifically asking, with the server brushing it off and saying they would first bring our starters. What should have been a good meal was completely overshadowed and ruined by bad service and disappointing food.
