So, my mom and I decided to drive from SF to check this place out, yesterday, Wednesday, 6/12/2024. I called beforehand to see if they were busy. The young woman/waitress was nice and informed me of a low flow. when we arrived, we noticed there were scarce parking spots, but finally found one. She was right, there were only a few people. We decided to sit on one of the outdoor benches. That area was empty. We looked over the menu and became a little impatient. After 20 minutes the waitress finally came by to take our orders. First, we asked for drinks. We asked for Cacao, (A chocolate drink), and the waitress said, sorry, we don't have any right now. We don't have Cinommin and she named a few other ingredients they were out of. So we settled for sodas. I ordered the Bistec Encebollado (Steak) with sauteed onions on top, which came with a cabbage salad on the side, your choice of cooked banana (I ordered Tostones), and I ordered gallopinto. My mom ordered their grilled chicken, rice, beans, and Maduros (cooked bananas). And that came with a side of cabbage salad as well. We asked for a side of fried cheese, but the waitress informed us that there was a cheese recall. Ugh. That was understandable, but I wish she would have informed us over the phone of all
their missing items. I did mention to her that we were coming from SF. The food came out super fast! Immediately, I noticed the steak didn't look good. It looked dried out. I took three bites, and sure enough the meat wasn't fresh and they overcooked it. The piece of meat they gave me was very thin, and there was more fat than meat. I paid for the meat, not the fat. I was chewing rubbery fat. It was pretty gross. The onions and sauce were greasy, too. The grease was rancid. I couldn't believe it. … The gallopinto was good but had a strange scent. The cabbage salad was fresh and decent. The tostones were decent too, but on the bland side. They gave my mom tostones instead of the madudos she ordered. We informed the waitress. When the madudos were served, my mom cut one in half with her fork and it was completely raw inside. We just looked at each other, lol, and asked what else could go wrong, next? At that point, we asked for the check.
I don't think we will be giving this Nicaraguan restaurant another try. I think we will be staying on this side of the Bay for Nicaraguan food. I recommend, Las Tinajas in San Francisco on Mission Street. I don't like that I had to write this review, but, I felt it was important for the owners and someone like myself from the North Bay who was thinking about making the long trip out.

I spoke to my mom this morning, and she has been feeling Nauseated since last night. And I had diarrhea this morning. It was definitely the food of this restaurant. I would avoid the restaurant altogether!

Would be way better if they chopped the cabbage and didn’t buy bagged cabbage. And also frying their own tajadas, you can tell they are store bought chips.Using real lemons in the agua fresca would be great. You can taste the store-bought lemon juice in the pitaya. And thats exactly why Nicaraguese restaurants fall off in the bay area ..people forget to cook with real ingredients.

I'm going back and forth on my final rating for this place. I would land at a 3.5 if I could. We went there after purchasing a voucher for their all you can eat brunch event. I want to be clear that the flavor of the food was good. They had a pretty good variety of options. It just really reminded me of a backyard BBQ. There was a DJ there but for some reason the music kept cutting off. It was a sunny day and they had limited shade canopies that people kept moving around to try and block the sun. The actual waitress was very friendly and did her best to mange the entire patio. If I'm being transparent, the first round or 2 of food was cold but the third plate (don't judge me) was nice and hot. They had chicken, regular rice, rice and beans, pork, beef, yuca, French fries, coleslaw, fried fish, and more. We drove about 40 minutes to attend this event. Not sure we'd do it again.

This place started off good a couple of years ago when the owner (Jennifer) was actually present but quality of food, service and overall value seem to be declining. The last two times we went over the past 3 months, Jennifer was nowhere to be seen. To start, the waitress was friendly but I had to get up to get utensils for the table after food was brought out. The fried cheese appetizer consisted of just a few cubes that were hard, dry and tasteless all for a whopping $10.00.The dessert "buñuelos" plate consisted of just five small balls again for a ridiculous $10 price tag. Our server barely came to check on us and again, I had to get up to request the check. Not sure why the lack of attention because the place was almost empty except for our table. I was surprised to see that they took the liberty of adding a 20% gratuity to our bill and when I questioned it, the gal just said that the "system adds it automatically" and there's nothing she can do about it. They also add another fee for credit card payment option so we paid cash. We brought Nicaraguan family there who just flew in from New Jersey and drove there from Brentwood hoping to treat them to a good experience but they were not impressed at all. We have been supportive of this business for several years but sad to say, we will not be back. Jennifer needs to be present more often to ensure a good customer experience or hire better staff to run her place. We have owned restaurants and it's not easy but it's even harder when you have an absentee owner, that's a recipe for disaster when it comes to the longevity of a business like this. ☹️

The food is really very bad. I was happy to see the name, I thought I would find a little piece of my land in this place. It's the second time I've come and the first time I thought it was very bad but I wanted to give it a second chance. But apparently there isn't a single Nicaraguan in the kitchen, I know it's not Nicaragua because the flavors have absolutely nothing to do with the real ones. the fresh rice with pineapple without color or flavor, the cocoa is pure pinolillo and the roast meat has nothing to do with flavor. For the prices of this place, the food is terrible. So I don't recommend this place at all. It has a lot of potential, but they need cooks who really know the Nicaraguan flavor.

La Fritanguera delivers an authentic taste of Nicaragua with every bite. From classic dishes like Gallo Pinto to flavorful Carne Asada, each dish is bursting with traditional flavors and expertly prepared. The cozy atmosphere and friendly staff only enhance the dining experience. A must-visit for anyone craving a delicious Nicaraguan meal!” The Nica sampler is highly recommended.

I came here with my family, truth be told, I ordered Tostones with cheese, and a sweet plantain with cream, the toston and the cream that came with the sweet plantain were exquisitely good, I'm not talking about the cheese, because the cheese is but super tasteless, I ordered a cocoa and yes it was delicious, I hope that one day they improve the cheese, if the cheese were better I would give it 10/10?
