Walked in on a Friday at 5 pm and sat at the sushi bar. Our initial server took our drink order then disappeared for about 15 minutes. Come to find out he left for the day! Our second server was very nice, but definitely spread thin. Food was good.

We’ve been coming here since 2020 and was my number one recommendation to others. However, over the recent year the quality of food has gone down significantly! The food is hit or miss, more miss than hit.

Today, the scallops tasted old, panko shrimp mostly panko on the Marilyn Monroe. My husband got the Carmen Roll, deep fried, with real crab rather than mix. The fry on both lobster and the roll was soggy and lacked substance for an up charge on the real crab. The green beans also soggy and an old taste to it.

In spite of the food, the service provided by the bar tender was GREAT! He was great and understanding!

The restaurant is beautiful. Great location. There was a lot more seating availability out on the patio which was heated. In general a long wait on a Saturday. Very busy. It was also quieter on the patio for those folks who need a quieter setting. The only drawback is that we felt a bit forgotten about on the patio and our service was friendly but not frequent. The miso soup was disappointing with 2 pieces if tofu and no seaweed. Food was good but definitely more of an American take on sushi. You have to ask for Wasabi and ginger.

Delicious food and attentive service in a lively atmosphere. Their Illegal Asparagus is amazing.

A Must👍Visit Japanese Spot in Concord!
Mikoni is a place I will never stop visiting whenever I’m in California. The food is always fresh, flavorful, and beautifully presented. I ordered the same sushi three times during my visit it was that good! The ambiance is chill and welcoming, making it a great place to enjoy a relaxed meal. Although we spent over $300++and didn’t catch the name of our server (who left without saying goodbye 😢 we still needed water, geez), the kindness and professionalism of the manager more than made up for it. She was incredibly accommodating wish I had gotten her name! I highly recommend Mikoni to anyone craving authentic Japanese cuisine with great service and cool vibes.🙌

I loved this sushi spot! And I am a huge sushi person! My dad and I went during lunchtime and got 2 bento boxes I believe they were each at most $25 , but the amount of food they give you is incredible. Neither one of us could finish. The ambiance is great. The restaurant is huge inside with indoor and outdoor seating. I highly recommend this restaurant!

We’ve been regulars at Mikuni for a long time and have always loved the food and the experience, but after today, I’m honestly questioning whether we want to keep coming back.

It started with a simple check-in for a table — my husband put our name down and even received a confirmation text. After 30 minutes of not hearing anything, he went back to check and was told we were not on the list. Despite the confusion, they were gracious enough to seat us.

We ordered appetizers and nigiri, and after 15 minutes with no sign of our food, we asked our server to check. Magically, our nigiri arrived within a minute of that inquiry — which was frustrating, to say the least. We then waited another 30 minutes for our main rolls. At that point, our young son, understandably tired of sitting for almost an hour, lost his patience.

When I asked about the food again, the waitress simply said, “The chefs are behind; there is nothing I can do.” No apology, no updates. Finally, my husband decided we were done waiting and told the staff we were leaving. Only then did the waiter go check on the food. Not to mention, it looked like all the tables around us were receiving their food just fine.

As I was gathering our things, the food arrived (my husband and son had already left).
I told them I would take it to go if they were just going to throw it away, but after waiting 45 minutes, I was not willing to pay for it. The manager came over and offered me just one of the three rolls to take home. Honestly, I couldn’t believe they preferred to throw away food rather than show any understanding or goodwill — especially toward long-time customers.

We left feeling extremely disappointed. I have really mixed feelings now. It’s a place we’ve supported for years, but today made me wonder if loyalty means anything to them.

If You Like Overpaying for Bad Sushi, This Is Your Place
$60 got us great freaky edamame, see-through salmon, mushy sashimi, and a bartender too busy flirting to get the order right. Mikuni’s is a hard pass. Do yourself a favor and eat at Hasumi Sushi in Pleasant Hill — real sushi, real service. We should have known better. This place is way over-priced for what you get for a lunch special. Can't imagine the cost for dinner. I give it 2 stars for atmosphere and their edamame.

Wayyy overpriced and worst sushi I've ever had. No joke, it was bad.

This Mikuni have the worse customer service ever.
Forgot to serve dessert and brought bill! Asked for zig zag sauce 3 times never brought it. I always get flamingshroom cut in half because they are very hot and too big to eat in a one bit. They told me they don’t do that whereas at same place they have done it! Told me they will give me a knife to cut it myself guess what never gave me a knife. Imagine cutting it with chip stick!

I’ve been coming to Mikuni since 2021, and it’s hands down the best authentic Japanese sushi spot. The staff is always friendly, knowledgeable, and happy to answer any questions. The sushi? Absolutely amazing. I always order the Japanese Mafia, Marilyn Monroe, Train Wreck, and Tommy rolls—each one is packed with flavor and always fresh. If you love sushi, this place is a must-visit!

All the Mikuni’s are fabulous. Whether hot food to sushi everything is tasty.
