i'm from LA and have been SEARCHING for a gelato shop that makes it the authentic italian way, with no artificial dyes/flavors and the correct texture. i stumbled across this place while in newport with my family and knew i had to try it immediately when i saw the way the gelato is stored (in the steel tins, as opposed to giant mountains like most places in the US). definitely not disappointed. the flavors were done perfectly and not overly sweet, and you could so tell it...
Gelato Del Mar serves delicious gelato - my favorites are their honeycomb and salted caramel. The owner is a great guy, he let us try flavors and order before the store was even open. Highly recommend!
