Beware of roaches!

Henry MC

I had a very unpleasant experience at Cocina 35 in Coronado this morning (March 13, 2026 around 9:40 AM).

While I was eating, I noticed a cockroach in the food that had been served to me. Finding something like that in a dish at a restaurant is extremely concerning and completely unacceptable from a hygiene and food safety standpoint.

I brought it to the manager’s attention, but the response was disappointing. Instead of taking clear accountability, the explanation felt more like excuses, which made the situation even more frustrating.

Needless to say, I could not continue eating after that. An incident like this raises serious concerns about kitchen cleanliness and pest control. I have reported the incident because food safety should be taken seriously.

As a thriller and romance author, I always notice restaurants with great atmosphere and memorable settings, and Cocina 35 at the Coronado Ferry Landing is a fantastic place for brunch.

The restaurant has a beautiful location right on the water at the ferry landing, with an incredible view across the bay toward the San Diego skyline. It’s one of those rare restaurant settings where the scenery alone makes the visit worthwhile.

My brother actually took me here for my birthday, and visiting during the Christmas season made it even more special. The whole area was decorated and festive, which added to the atmosphere.

The food is excellent with a creative selection of Mexican-style brunch dishes that go well beyond the typical breakfast menu. Everything felt thoughtfully prepared and full of flavor.

The staff was friendly and helpful throughout the visit, and the overall experience felt polished and upscale without being overly formal.

Between the incredible waterfront view, great food, and welcoming service, Cocina 35 is a wonderful brunch destination at the Coronado Ferry Landing.

Seriously, the vibe, the food, the views - everything was just top-notch!

I totally forgot to snap any food pictures again (facepalm!). But honestly, if you pop onto their website, the pictures they feature are a genuine reflection of what lands on your table. No surprises, just deliciousness!

There were four of us, and we all decided to be adventurous and order completely different items, and every single dish was absolutely delicious. Not a single weak link among them! I went for the Tochomorocho Combo, and wow, it was a flavor adventure! It included chilaquiles regulares, perfectly seasoned beans, classic huevos rancheros, and this incredible grilled sweet corn tamal, all beautifully finished with a dollop of sour cream and a sprinkle of cotija cheese. My taste buds were doing a happy dance!

Someone else in our group ordered the pancake combo, and they couldn't stop raving about how truly exceptional it was. They looked incredibly fluffy and tempting!

Just a heads-up if you decide to go (and you totally should!): there's free parking for two hours in their lot, which is a big plus. Also, this place gets super popular, so I'd highly recommend making a reservation. Even with how busy they get, they manage the wait line like absolute pros - they were even handing out parasols to folks waiting in the sun, which I thought was such a thoughtful touch.

Food always amazing 100%, 1st time here to this location, have only been to other one in SD...our experience would have been amazing if our waiter would have been a tad bit more attentive. Edgar was very nice and took our drink & food order right away but after that he was very inattentive...we waited 10min for utensils AFTER our food arrived & he never refilled our drinks or asked if we needed water which we needed. Had to get the attention of another waitress & bus boy. We did noticed he had another table of (12) & was very attentive there. May i suggest to not take any tables more than you can handle, you will always disappoint someone...in this case MY Family! Never got the birthday dessert or Edgar never got the cookie my daughter wanted from the cart. I only left Edgar $5 tip but that was how we felt from your service. Sorrynotsorry

Excellent place to grab your brunch or lunch. Vibrant atmosphere with amazing good food options. Service is excellent. And eat the flan. It’s the best you can get anywhere. The server behind the bar told me that one of their staff makes them in house. It was indeed the best flan.

Great location view is amazing and the food is great. My favorite are the Chipotle creamy chilaquiles. The service is fast but this place is super packed on the weekends so the tables do have a time limit. I recommend making a reservation unless you are ok with waiting around 1 hour to be seated.

Tried Chicken Fajitas, Quesadillas, Mexican coffee and kid meals. I liked everything. It Avg to above average taste. Vibe is great. We walked in without a reservation and had to wait for 45 mins to get in. So, I would recommend getting a reservation before hand

Sadly, we didn’t even get a chance to try their food. We had a reservation and arrived while it was pouring rain and very windy. The hostess basically told us we couldn’t come inside and had to wait outside despite the weather.
When we were finally allowed in, the interaction felt unwelcoming. We were seated on the busy side of the restaurant, and when I politely asked if we could sit by the window where there were clearly empty tables, I was told no without much explanation.
The lack of hospitality and empathy was disappointing, especially given the weather. Because of how we were treated from the start, we ended up walking away before ordering.

The food was good, loved the coffee too! My only complaint is their booking system. If you want to cancel the day before there's no way to do it, everything prompts you to call them but no one answers and since your credit card is on file it's concerning and feels like a scam. They need a better system when needing to cancel the reservation without concern you'll be charged.

This was our first time visiting and we loved it! The staff was beyond friendly, and was constantly checking on our table, the manager also stopped by to greet us you just feel so welcomed. The fold was delicious! We will definitely be going more often.
