I love the food and service here. I like the Katsu Curry more than the Shabu Shabu one since it's more savory. The salad with salmon skin is also amazing and it is a good appetizer. I also ordered the Assorted Tempura but I don't really recommend it since it will be a bit too much to eat all the sides and finish your bowl, unless you go as a group because I struggled to finish my bowl after all the tempura filling my stomach and, you know, fried food fill it quick.Overall, probably the best Udon place I ever tried in OC.

The ambiance is cozy and inviting, making it the perfect spot to warm up on a chilly day or enjoy a satisfying meal with friends. The staff is friendly and attentive, providing excellent service from start to finish. If you're a fan of Japanese cuisine or simply craving a comforting bowl of noodles, Meiji Seimen is a must-visit destination in Costa Mesa!

Love the handmade udon, good texture and nice flavors for the soup. I also had the eel rice but I'll recommend the noodles instead. The small dish of the crispy fried chicken are also very good. Juicy and tender meat.

Really enjoyed the Chicken tempura curry udon. It was delicious and spicy (level 1) and the chicken was actually crunchy. Join the wait-list beforehand, our wait was ~45 min (worth the wait, I would return here for sure)

This place is great. Besttt fried squid legs. I usually get the shabu beef udon, which comes with a ponzu dipping sauce. Friendly and attentive staff. This place can get pretty busy, but it's well worth the

My friend and I ordered cold soba noodle combination with fried shrimp and veggies, takoyaki, curry soba and fried cartilage. They were all on point. The handmade soba noodles were cooked just right - chewy and bouncy. The fried shrimp with sweet soy sauce on top of white rice was also ?. I highly recommend this place!FYI, my friend is Japanese, and she approves as well!

Might be the best udon I've ever had. Long waits and tight seating but worth it :)

The food was really good- curry noodles are amazing and the dashi broth was very simple and refreshing. The handmade noodles are wonderful. The portions are more than enough. But my main criticism is the toppings. In the soba noodle, they are extremely skimpy about the toppings that you charge extra to add on. The soft tofu they are generous with. But the green onion is basically nonexistent. The fish cake is ONE slice, the seasoned egg which they charge extra for is HALF of an egg! I also added shitaki mushroom extra and IT WAS A SINGLE MUSHROOM HEAD. It’s not uncommon for restaurants to skimp on toppings in general but this was just ridiculous.I would give five stars besides the toppings issue.

A "seimen" is a restaurant that makes their own noodles. People go there because the noodles are special. And that totally applies to this totally authentic Japanese restaurant. We had the katsu curry udon (fried pork cutlet in a curry soup with plenty of udon noodles) and the saba set (grilled mackerel with salad and miso soup). Both were excellent: very tasty and perfectly cooked. The only problem with this place is that it's very popular and the dining room is small. Which means long waits on weekends if you don't make a reservation (so, do it and then there's no problem, right?) Service is excellent and corteous. Food is served in a very reasonable time. Also reasonable are the prices. Highly recommended.

So excited to finally able to try Meiji Seimen and I cannot wait to come back. The service was prompt and the food was just phenomenal. Perfect bowl of hot udon to help soothe the sore throat that I am sure everyone has at this time of year.

Visited here recently with friends. Ordered the cold soba noodles as I don't have those often and wanted to venture away from what I typically ordered. The noodles were okay. I did feel like they could have rinsed in cold water a bit more as some of the noodle were clumped/stuck together and it was difficult to get a bit size portion to transfer into the dipping sauce. We had fried chicken for the table. The favor was very good. The size of each piece was quiet large. I'm not sure if that's the standard but I don't think I would have minded more bite-sized pieces. The dipping sauce did have a decent amt of oil on top so it was a bit difficult to get to the actual sauce on the bottom of the bowl. Had to vigorously stir the sauce before dipping.Other people in the party did say the udon was good so if I'm ever in the area again, I would try the udon.
