The miyabe bento at $16 is quite good! You get a decent amount of food as well as a small portion of grilled mackerel. Tempura is good too. Can be a bit noisy in the area because of the food court. Service is super fast.

This place is located inside the Mitsuwa market in Costa Mesa, a few blocks south of South Coast Plaza and not far from I-405. It's a typical Japanese Donburi fast-food restaurant, with no surprises on the menu. What's surprising is the more-than-reasonable prices, which may indicate that the food quality is mediocre. Not the case here, trust me.
We had Katsu-curry and a combo of Udon+Katsu-don. The meat was thick and tender, and the Udon was delicious. The food was nicely prepared and delivered promptly. I highly recommend this place not because it's the best Japanese food I've ever had (still pretty good though), but because the value for your money is very high here. I'll definitely be back...

Being from Hawaii, the Japanese food here is straight out of Hawaii. Back there they love the curries, the Soba, hot and cold. And the grilled mackerel. The food here is good tasting and plentiful.
The service here is very simple. You choose your order from the examples in the display case, go up to the window, Tell him what you want. and it takes about 2 to 5 minutes to get your order. Then you just take your tray to an available table and enjoy your meal. The best part about this court is that they have several different venders representing different types of Japanese food so if you come with friends or family, everybody can go get what they want and then meet at the tables in the middle. Other vendors in close a Ramein, sushi bowl, tempura, grilled meat place and more.
Also, you do not have to pay only in cash as in the past, ow they do take credit cards as well. One trick that we do is we will run inside the grocery area and get a little packet of sushi and bring that out to eat with our meal from Miyabi Yei or any of the other restaurants. So check it out.

I was in town for a couple weeks and ate here twice in an area with a lot of good choices. Both times I had the chicken cutlet curry which was excellent!

Loved it, would try again and other stuff on the menu
+ got the pork cutlet bowl and it was so good. The egg is exactly how I like it. Came with miso which was hot and good (besides a fly getting in it)
+ the fake food on the window definitely made it enticing to order

Second time here for the pork cutlets and gravy. Wouldn’t say out of this world, but decent for the portion and price of $10.75 (w/rice and salad). The weak link was the salad as most of it was brownish along the edges meaning it’s not fresh or kept out too long. There are other restaurants in this shopping center to check out.

Not authentic. Saba feels like cooked 3hours ago and shogayaki is very dry and not tender with less flavor

Another place I frequently visit at the food court in Mitsua. The price is reasonable and the food quality is good. They have daily specials on Katsu- Curry plates, Bento boxes, soba, udon and rice bowls.

I have tried the katsudon and the curry dish. Both were phenomenal. Quality food and an unbearable price. The most authentic katsudon I've had in So-Cal.

Good for the price. The Miyabi bento is definitely eye catching, but nothing spectacular in terms of taste. I would be interested to try some of the other menu items, though.
Really good choices for lunch. The udon noodle soup and bento box are my favorites.
