Good sushi spot but I would not say it was outstanding. The sushi and appetizers came up pretty typical for a strip mall sushi spot. The good thing is that you can order nigiri per piece so it’s easier to mix and match. Also the cut rolls were also in a smaller portion size allowing for a variety per table. Pricing wise I thought Takumi was reasonable.

Came here for the first time and it’s small but cute. Definitely come early for dinner because it got busy when we left at 6pm and Damian, our waiter said the Yellowtail collar sells out early. He couldn’t stop raving about it and kept eyeing it every time he came to our table. I almost felt bad I couldn’t share it with him even though I offered. He was the best waiter, so attentive and actually talked to us as if we knew each other. Ok back to the food…it was amazing! So many good choices, I can’t even pick a favorite. Even their house salad was a huge portion. Make sure you ask for fresh wasabi, not all sushi places have it. Can’t wait to go back!!!!

Absolute best sushi experience I've had on the West Coast. Fish was fresh and delicious, with a diverse menu and plenty of options. The service from everyone was as courteous and genuine as it was quick and efficient. Michael greeted us as soon as we walked in, and Bill gave us an excellent experience table-side. Great atmosphere indoors and outside as well, with plenty of heaters for the latter. We will 100% be coming back here again. (Honorable Mention: the Garlic Edamame had a fantastic consistency, hard to find in other sushi spots)

Sushi had no taste. Most places give you 5 or 6 pieces here you get 4 pieces for $9. I would not come here. I had stomach issues the next day

Solid sushi spot in Costa Mesa! We were seated quickly and the service was great. The baked baby lobster roll was to die for, and we really enjoyed the fresh fish and rolls overall. The ambience is cute, with a cozy Japanese-style izakaya vibe. Definitely a place worth coming back to!

Great sushi spot. We ordered the sashimi platter, poke salad, and various no-rice rolls. Everything we tried was so fresh and delicious.

A great place with awesome service, whether you're visiting with family and friends or seeking a quick solo spot at the counter.

Takumi is the younger sister of wildly popular Eat’s sushi. We were seated promptly (I recommend eating there before 6, when the dinner rush begins) at a comfortable booth. The decor is cozy, clean, and cute - reminiscent of a sushi bar lifted from Tokyo.

What we ordered:
1. Salmon collar - wow. Tender, flavorful, and just the right amount of fattiness. Fresh and succulent.
2. Nigiri - toro, uni, unagi, ikura and salmon. All were incredibly fresh and generously portioned for the price. Really, you can’t beat the price to quality ratio. Takumi - like Eat’s - reigns supreme.
3. Baked scallop roll - I don’t normally order rolls, but I have to make an exception when at Takumi. Usually I feel like sushi rolls incorporate lower quality fish than the nigiri, sashimi, and handrolls - but this is clearly not the case at Takumi. Anyway, this is my absolute favorite roll at Takumi, and the scallops are refreshingly not overcooked and fresh, without that cheap fishy aroma. The roll itself is both savory and just a touch sweet - hitting all my favorite flavor profiles.
3. Bikini roll - my second favorite roll at Takumi. Salmon, tuna, and tempura shrimp are the dominant flavors here. All great quality fish and very reasonably priced.
4. Soft shell crab - just a classic dish, and Takumi executes this so perfectly. The perfect amount of batter to crab, and the dipping sauce is the perfect compliment.
5. Philly roll - according to my dining partner, the best Philly roll he’s ever had.
6. Handrolls - we ordered Philly, spicy tuna, and California. All excellent and classics, no notes.

Service was amazing - we were greeted and constantly checked on by the servers. They did an excellent job topping up our waters and bringing out dishes quickly. Takumi was a fantastic choice for a date night, and easy parking is always a plus. This and Eat’s (their sister restaurant) will forever be our go-to sushi picks when in OC.

The crispy rice with tuna was my favorite bite of the meal. I loved their spicy edamame! The staff was super kind and the food came out speedy quick. Super fresh fish, beautiful date-night vibes, definitely a great and relatively inexpensive AYCE sushi spot!

We stopped in Takumi Sushi in Costa Mesa for a late lunch and were blown away! The menu has so many options that it was hard to choose, but everything we tried was fresh, flavorful, and affordable. The sushi melted in our mouths, and the baked dishes. Especially the Takoyaki, were absolutely delicious. We left full and happy! On top of that, the customer service was excellent. The staff made sure we were taken care of the entire time. We will most definitely let everyone know about this place and will be back again soon!

Takumi Sushi in Costa Mesa is a solid spot if you want fresh sushi without paying crazy prices. Nothing fancy, but everything tasted clean and well put together. Service was easygoing and the food came out quick enough. I ordered the poke salad, tempura, energy roll, rainbow roll, sushi (bluefin tuna, yellowtail, bay scallop), and the combo sashimi B. Everything was fresh, portions were fair, and it felt like good value overall. Takumi doesn’t overdo it — just fresh fish, fair portions, and prices that make it easy to come back. A good option for a casual sushi night in Costa Mesa.
