Most of the negative reviews for this restaurant are about them forcing customers to pay tips or charging tips on the card without consent. I experienced this myself — absolutely disgusting!
The food was okay at first, but with this kind of dishonest practice, it’s no surprise they’re heading toward closure. They really need to reflect on what they’re doing.

Title: Terrible Service, Rude Staff, and Unsafe Food

Review:
My family and I had an extremely bad experience at Szechwan Kitchen (Covina), and I want to share it so others can avoid the same mistake.

The woman answering the phone is very rude and even yells at customers. If you ask about the food, she gives excuses like “our meat is always like that” or “every batch is different,” instead of answering politely. She even blames the customer.

The food quality is terrible:
• The fish often smells spoiled and sour.
• Twice-cooked pork is almost all fat, and the cumin lamb is at least half fat as well.
• Chicken dishes come undercooked, with blood inside.
• One time, my niece ate here and got diarrhea. My father also got sick after eating their food — our whole family had stomach problems after one meal.

I later checked reviews on Google and Yelp, and many other customers have reported the same issues: bad fish, fatty meat, and poor service. This shows it’s not just our bad luck — it’s a repeated problem.

Between the unsafe food and the aggressive, unfriendly service, this restaurant is one of the worst experiences we’ve had in the area. I will never go back, and I hope others read this before ordering from them.

Title: Extremely Rude Service and Poor Food Quality

Review:
I used to order from Szechwan Kitchen (Covina) several times in the past, but my experience today was the last straw.

When I called to order, I politely asked about the fat content of certain dishes like 回锅肉 (twice-cooked pork) and cumin lamb. I simply wanted to know if the meat would be mostly lean, and even said it’s fine as long as it’s within a reasonable range (about 1/3 fat). Instead of answering professionally, the woman on the phone became impatient and dismissive. She told me “you can’t choose” and “if you care so much, don’t order.” Then she abruptly hung up, saying they were closing — even though I was already placing my order.

This is not the first bad experience:
• Several times the fish was not fresh and had a sour, spoiled smell. When I asked, I was told “酸菜鱼 (pickled fish) is supposed to smell like that.”
• Their grilled fish was also not fresh, and the bones were still stuck to the flesh.
• Chicken dishes arrived undercooked, with visible blood.

The combination of poor food quality and extremely rude customer service is unacceptable, especially in the U.S. where customers expect respect and basic professionalism. I will not be ordering from here again, and I recommend others think twice before spending money at this restaurant.

I called szechuan kitchen with the intention to order. As I was ordering, I asked if their lamb cumin had a lot of fat, or around how much fat they’d have. However, instead of responding properly, the waitress told us off. We were already half way into our order, and she never mentioned anything beforehand. She suddenly told us, in a bad attitude, that the kitchen is closed and won’t be taking our order. I simply ASKED if they would have a lot of fat or not, and around what we should expect. Really rude, considering we were almost finished with ordering before she rudely refused service. We would’ve been fine if she told us from the start, but it’s very obvious she used the kitchen closing as an excuse.

The food is spicy! Half spicy still made my nose run, and made me drink everything in sight. I don’t eat spicy food just so you have a reference. The food didn’t have as much flavor as I hoped with as much as it cost. If you are looking for take out I do not recommend this place. It is more of a sit down, and eat there kind of restaurant. The staff is very attentive, and the food only took about 10 minutes to be done.

Great authentic Szechwan food! Good service! I stopped by this place and ordered the Cumin Lamb with rice and it did not disappoint. The meat was fresh, tender, velvety, and aromatic with cilantro, red pepper, and onion. The spice had a nice savory kick that you would expect from Szechwan food, but not overwhelming. The ambiance was down-to-earth and no-nonsense--ideal for a great place to savor some authentic eats done right! You can't go wrong by eating here. Much recommended! Check it out.

The chicken was bad, pork was bad, everything tasted like soy sauce 😭 we spent so much money on food we didn’t even eat. Do not go here… the few bites I did eat aren’t even settling well and the after taste is horrible… can’t even get a refund.

Very authentic sichuan style food. I brought in my own catch of saltwater rockfish and the chef offered to customize into sichuan saukeraut fish or sichuan fried fish. Highly recommend to cook your catch here and try other dishes.

We paid 18.99USD for the dish of Preserved Pork Belly. it's not Chinese traditional preserved pork belly (腊肉), but it's actually Bacon. Preserved Pork Belly should be with a smoking smell and a dry texture. But this dish is just salty and have a soft texture, which is Bacon. This dish absolutely doesn't deserve the price. Also, it's very salty and the restaurant didn't provide us with water. So I decided not to give tips. The cashier asked me for tips angrily and I explained. She said reluctantly that our tips could be waiver this time. ? aren't tips based on quality and service? This is the first time I give no tips in a restaurant. What a bad experience.
