Schmidt's House of Jambalaya lived up the hype and then some. Came here after a long day on the road from Yachats and a walk in the redwoods so we were hungry. While it was busy we were seated within minutes of arrival by, as we were to soon find out, one of the owners Jen Schmidt who was helping serve during the evening rush.

Ordered 2 of the signature dishes that started it all, fish and chips, crawdad and shrimp fritters, and a fried shrimp po’boy for four people. No one walked away hungry. The jambalaya was excellent, the fish and chips one of the best on our journey down the Oregon Coast, and my teenage son said the po’boy was solid.

The location is awesome and offers a nice walk along the beach to take in the sunset after a long day. Can’t say when we’ll be rolling through Crescent City again, but sure as rain we’ll be stopping here.

Local beers, good Cajun food, served in a little wooden beach shack on the jetty with a porch and a picnic area with fire pit overlooking the rocky beach as sea lions bark in the harbor. Amazing.

Well, the food ok, I wouldn’t say it was the best seafood in the area but it was ok. The prices and the portions are ridiculous though. $22 for a little house salad and extra for the shrimp on it. $25 for a bowl of jambalaya and extra for cornbread, but the seafood boil… $65 for the smallest seafood boil I’ve ever had, with one piece of corn and 2 pieces of sausage.. the flavor was good but we spent well over $100 and left hungry. It was an interesting experience.

This restaurant is great! Our second time here, after we got to visit on vacation years ago. We had the jambalaya, fish and chips, and chowder. Everything was delicious and our waitress was very kind and attentive. We hope to come back again someday!

Jambalaya was way over priced, $25.00 for a little bowl of mostly rice, only 2 pieces of shrimp was a bit of sausage tho, wasn't great but not bad, also if you want corn bread is extra $2.

Jambalaya was excellent but portion was small for the price.

The food here is perfectly fine, but the price-to-portion ratio is incredibly disappointing. My partner and I stopped in for lunch and ended up with a bill of $135, yet we left the restaurant still feeling hungry. In fact, we are literally heading to McDonald’s right now for a second lunch just to full up.
As for what we ordered, the highlight was definitely the shrimp skewer. It was fantastic—exceptionally tender and packed with great flavor. Unfortunately, the rest of the meal fell short on volume. Both the jambalaya and the seafood broil were served in surprisingly small portions, especially considering the premium price tag attached to them.
While the kitchen clearly knows how to cook and season their dishes well, the value proposition just isn't there. When you spend over $130 on a mid-day meal for two people, you expect to walk out satisfied, not looking for the nearest drive-thru. If you have a decent appetite, be prepared to either overspend or leave empty-handed. We wanted to love it, but we won’t be returning.

I had a Smashburger today and it was very good. Made to order and hot. I have to confess I’m usually stuck on the fish and chips, but the Smashburger is occasionally on the menu so this time I tried it. It’s worth it.
