Atmosphere was great. Service was good. Food was bit overpriced but I can pay for atmosphere. Fish Taco was good. $9. Kids chicken tenders and fries were really good portion. My boy was happy. Tasted just like any chicken tenders and fries. Not bad, nothing outstanding. Shrimp with black sauce was tasty. Slightly small for $20. Overall worth try. Hard to find parking if you wish not to pay extra for hotel parking.

I ordered room service with Butterfly here at The Shay and it took them 3 trips to bring my breakfast, the last one to bring utensils. So I had to stare at my food for 10-15 minutes as it got cold and soggy in the box. Everything comes in deep boxes you have to eat from, using plastic utensils and the cheapest paper napkin. Really disappointing experience.

The setting is wonderful on the sixth floor and next to the pool with a sprawling outdoor deck. Service was good and they were on it! The food is just meh. In SoCal the bar for tacos and Mexican food is high; and if you are going to charge a premium for these it better be good. Had the tacos and tuna ceviche and it wasn’t bad but it wasn’t good. Everything just tasted odd and off. I would go back if the menu was updated but all the food was weird.

I must say this was the best salsa event I have ever been too!!
Bret Talbot /manager was amazing at the door, his kindness and hospitality has exceeded what to expect from any Resteraunt,Fantasic ,Amazing delicious ,the energy from the event that he was hosting Jazz/Salsa venue ,with the live band was over the top!!
A perfect evening amongst friends & new relationships crated by the energy!
Bret Talbot was always kind with helping the needs of his customers and listening to their requests!!
I believe this venue should become a residency event and it can only just make Butterfly more of a wonderful landmark for our community.
I enjoy salsa dancing very much this sat evening was such a delight to see my fellow Salsero & Saseras
I hope to see them again and much more
Mauricio & Danny and friends truly enjoyed this night,
Thank you

I don’t even understand how this place has 4 stars. The food was so bad. We got the black garlic shrimp- it had a weird aftertaste. The ceviche (something paradiso)- was so mediocre. The fish did not look fresh. Flavor was lacking. We ordered a fish taco and it was so bland. Presentation was very nice. But the food taste was lacking.
Disappointed that they didn’t even try to fix anything when we brought up our concerns. We decided to opt out of the dessert and go somewhere else to avoid risk.
The rooftop is super cute and I was hoping the food was going to be a hit. So disappointed.

Pretty good food, nice airy vibe. Grossly overpriced & poor service. Very predictable predatory restaurant given it’s in a hotel in a corporate block: they have a captive customer base (most of whom are presumably expensing their meals) so can afford to overcharge. Service took forever. Said there was live music, but there wasn’t. Our group’s 2 beers came after our meals (20 min??). We had 3 different servers / bussers constantly interrupting us and not communicating. Failed to remove the cilantro in n dishes like we asked. Check took 10+ minutes. The icing on the cake is for a restaurant to charge $400+ for a lunch party of 6 then hand you a credit card reader asking min. 18% only to say they don’t validate parking (there are no public spots). This would be a decent airport restaurant, but we will not be taking our clientele here again.

Food was great, but service was worst I've ever seen. Or in our case, not seen.
Server rarely came to our table. It's not a large venue so it was easy to see him just standing at the bar. Wasn't getting or waiting for drinks. Wasn't cleaning. Just stood there with his sunglasses on.
One member of our party came slightly later than the other 4. They arrived 15 minutes before happy hour ended. 5 minutes after happy hour ended, our server finally came over and checked on us. Was shocked to see our new guest despite us telling him about a late arriving guest and when he would be arriving.
Food was really good, but I can't help thinking that it would have been better if we didn't have to flag our waiter down after every 15-20 minutes that he hadn't been to our table and ask about it. Every time he would walk back to the kitchen and walk right back out with it. How long has it just been sitting there?
After another long wait for dessert, we didn't bother with our waiter who was once again just standing at the bar. We were able to get the attention of a man who seemed like a manager. He walked back and immediately came out with our desserts.
Had to rely on another server to bring our check and take our payment.
Service can vary wildly based upon who you get, so your experience will likely not be the same. It appeared to just be this one guy. Every other server seemed very attentive to their tables. But you should know it's a place that puts up with this kind of service for at least one day.

Had a great experience coming here to eat for my friends bday. The food was great, loved the ambiance and our waiter Quin went above and beyond. I really liked the vibe here and food price was pretty good for a hotel.:)

Absolutely loved it! We chose Butterfly as our Dine LA pick for the night, and it turned out to be a fantastic choice. During Dine LA, we like to try restaurants we haven’t visited before, and Butterfly did not disappoint. The food was outstanding.
We’d been to this location before when it was a different restaurant, so we already knew it was a beautiful spot atop The Shay Hotel. This time, we scored a perfect poolside table with a gorgeous sunset view. On top of that, knowing it’s owned by José Andrés—a personal hero—made the evening even more special. We’ll definitely be coming back!
