MENSHO TOKYO 9516 Culver Blvd, Culver City Japanese • $$

“Reason for visiting:
Date/time of visit: Thursday Afternoon lunch, ~12:30 PM
Parking: I parked in the paid parking garage at the Culver steps; paid $2 after dobe with lunch so assume good for ~2 hours. My coworker found street parking 1-2 blocks away if you want to try to find street parking but $2 is reasonable
Party size: 4
Environment/ambience: smallish place with few tables and some outdoor seating. No TVs inside; not too loud inside. Pets allowed but prob outdoor only. Clean restrooms. Lots of things to see and visit around too; downtown Culver City has things within walking distance and outdoor grass areas to hang out around
Service: was great; came around often. Friendly too.
Food: had the W Chashu Ramen with egg; they do not serve alcohol here.
Cost: ~$140 with tip; $2 parking.
Would I go back (yes/no): 80/20; parking can be a hassle but food was great”

Kismet Rotisserie 10000 Washington Blvd, Culver City American • $

“Delicious little chicken place. Great food, small portions—kinda. Lots of side, not much chicken. I ordered the dark meat 1/4 plate, $18+ for two small pieces of chicken. Really good chicken, well seasoned.

Chicken was juicy, potatoes golden, bread soft, sauces delectable (chili and garlic). Hummus was RLLY good, and I don’t even like hummus.

Service was friendly and quick, what you’d expect from fast-ish food in Culver. The bright yellow decor is friendly, airy. A nice spot to chat over lunch.

I’m a 20-something guy, so lighter appetites would probably be satisfied with chicken portions. TBH I will be back and ordering the same meal. I’ll just… drink a protein shake first, or something.”

Cognoscenti Coffee 6114 Washington Blvd, Culver City Coffee Shops • $

“I write for a music and coffee blog called Crooners In Coffeeshops, in which I interview local musicians at local coffeeshops. My writeup reflects the positive experience that I encountered at Cognoscenti Coffee on our interview date. Modern meets comfort with a hint of retro inside (and outside) Culver City’s Cognoscenti Coffee. Don’t let its small exterior fool you, because once you step inside you will be welcomed by a slew of cute bistro tables, industrial benches, and colorful chairs. But wait, there’s more! Veer to the right and catch a breath of fresh air in their somewhat secluded patio area. Whether you’re meeting with your bestie or having a writer’s meeting, you will easily be able to find a space to fit however many people in your party. Now let’s get to the good stuff! Cognoscenti’s beverage menu is comprised of the classics along with fun seasonal recipes in the mix. My drink of choice, the surprisingly refreshing Turmeric Latte. I wasn’t quite sure what I was getting myself into, but I’m very glad that my day to be adventurous was an enjoyable one with its perfect ratio of milk to spice. Hungry? Check out their selection of huge (and I mean huge) pastries to fill you up for breakfast or to hold you over until your group dinner in one of the Downtown Culver restaurants.”

“I love Simonette. The patio is a wonderful place to relax and enjoy a cocktail and breakfast, lunch, or brunch. I’ve been there twice now and I can highly recommend the burger on the menu - the fried egg on top completes it! And the mussels in the light cream sauce are wonderful - especially with fries. A friend of mine ordered the fried Bronzino - the complete fish including the head - and she said it was delicious. There are great cocktails available and several wines and Prosecco available by the glass. After chatting with us a bit about the day, he managed to bring some much-needed laughter and really lifted the mood. It’s always noticeable when someone treats customers with real kindness instead of just going through the motions. “As most of you know trying vegan food is very new to me. Lately I’ve been on a tremendous weight loss drive so I had to be very careful what I eat and often times me very selective. But I have learned to enjoy it and today I got a vegan specialty from a cute little vegan protein bar. Right inside the gym I go to, LA fitness in Kansas City. And the young lady behind the bar was very pleasant and offered several suggestions as I let her know I just finished a very intense workout so I needed protein but I need to be very careful on the caloric intake. I tried the vegan peanut butter dream and let me tell you it certainly looked up to it stain. They were even kind enough to give me extra in a little cup on the side lol so I’ll be sure to enjoy it all day long this is a wonderful mix of almond milk, peanut butter, banana, Oats, and hemp seed and plant protein they are waiting for you to try the many other healthy options that I recommend highly!”

“Was it the first-time-fluke?

This place makes one of the most interesting flavor combos that does not make sandwiches boring. Love the saffron mayo.

When we came for the first time— they were out of focaccia breads and we had the WLF on baguette— it was fantastic. With the fried shallot, the flavors were well-balanced and found them different than other places.

We came back with the good memories and came back for the second time. The flavors inside of the bread were the same, but the bread— the original recipe— did not find the flavor balance and just sour throughout.

We learned that the original recipe isn’t good, but they don’t offer bread substitution (at least online). Tasting in a way could be just us, but not offering an option is not great. Happily willing to try again.”

“Great drinks and food across their multiple locations. I didn’t realize there were multiple locations and this was my first time at this specific location. The overall aesthetic of the shop is essentially the same. The service can take a bit long since it’s usually 1-2 baristas working as the cashier and the barista making the drink.

The food and drinks are a bit on the pricier end but very delicious.

They have outdoor seating available with umbrellas for shade.”

“As someone who grew up near Philly, this is the best cheesesteak I’ve had in LA.

Comes with mushroom and onions, which is a must. The bread was pillowy and soft, and while some prefer a crunchy toasted cheesesteak, I thoroughly enjoyed it. Not overly greasy, clean beef cuts, and the it was THE RIGHT CHEESE. I also got the garlic fries which were great.

Definitely get a cheesesteak here to satisfy the craving.”

From the outside, it’s pretty low-key and not the most eye-catching, but once you walk in, the whole vibe changes. The staff welcomes you right away, and you can’t miss the wall full of awards—it definitely says something. The place itself is casual and not fancy, but the food and service really stand out. Everyone on the team checked in on us without being overbearing, and you can tell they work well together. We ordered a bunch of dishes to share and everything was full of flavor. Definitely recommend getting a mango lassi to balance out the spice—it came in clutch.”

Still good though but not Mexico City suadero tacos good”
