Hey, Sunshine Kitchen

Stopped in for dinner to try this new place out. The interior was very bright and cheery, as well as the cashier who helped us. There is some seating inside (~20) and additional on the patio out front. Parking can be problematic, so go around to the back where the Best Buy is located. I ordered a Hearty Beef Bowl with a side of Potato Salad and started with Chickpea Nuggets. The nuggets were sort of a cross between a croquet and a falafel. The outside appeared to be battered and the inside was sort of soft and mushy. Flavor wasn't bad, but the texture was not my favorite. I probably would not order these again, as falafels are my favorite and these aren't anything like them. The Hearty Beef Bowl, on the other hand, was quite hearty! It's a LOT of food and it definitely filled me up. It's a good value at the price. The Potato Salad was another miss for me. I wasn't a fan of the cut of the potatoes nor the firmness. I much prefer less uniformly shaped potatoes and a little less "crunch". I'm not saying it was bad, just not my style. I will definitely be back to try other things on the menu. Nothing not to like about this place except for the problematic parking situation.

The jalapeño sauce is divine. DIVINE. I licked the bowl. I’m not even ashamed. After that, I was hooked. Been coming here since they first opened. The bowls are beautifully presented, healthy, filling, and tasty. Reasonable prices. This is a bright & sunny location with smiling faces and lots of outdoor seating. The mediterranean bowl is excellent. The mint leaves really make it special. The griddled patty is a firmer texture and less bready than the chickpea nuggets. The lemon aioli is thick, tastes like tangy ranch. The Ceasar bowl is delicious. The grilled chik'n has a different shape and texture than I’ve seen in other restaurants. Flatter strips and firmer texture. Great flavor. The beefy crumble bowl is fantastic too. Maybe my favorite. It's so hard to decide! I didn't care for the BBQ tofu, however. The tofu seemed uncooked and definitely was not grilled. Every sauce here is SO GOOD!! The sweet potato fries are crinkle cut and tasty, crisper than many other places’. The chickpea nuggets are sort of like a lighter version of hush puppies. I like them a lot, but if you're expecting chik'n nuggies, they are NOT that. Updated from previous review on 2025-09-14

Nice spot with a lot of different combinations, staff are friendly and helpful, and the food is good. Good for a quick bite!

It was ok. I didn't think the food was very exciting but good that there are more vegan restaurants.

I live in the Pasadena area and I drive all the way out just to get my Mediterranean chickpea fix from here. I had to ask if they were gonna open up a branch in Pasadena bc that’s really the only thing that’s stopping me from coming in weekly

Wow this place is amazing!! I noticed a sign when walking in that the bbq jackfruit sandwich is limited edition. Please do not take this off the menu!!! I’m begging you! That sandwich is my pride and joy, my Roman Empire. If you take it away, I fear what I might become. But seriously I love this place!

We ordered chickpea nuggets, a burger, got chicken sandwich, chocolate velvet & mac'n' cheese. Turns out that was 2 days worth of food. I'm an omnivore & my wife is pescatarian. I'm always interested in trying Vegan & vegetarian options. Honestly, I was impressed with the food here. The staff is very nice and attentive as well.

That chickpea nugget is delicious. Reminds me of a very good potato samosa. Mac'n'cheese also impressed me. Well-seasoned and creamy. The sandwiches were on point. I would rate the hot chicken a 3 on 10 scale for heat. Still tasty I almost wished I had gone with a bowl because the items altogether were a bit heavy. My other wish would be that the cake was larger... But I'm a fat kid at heart.

Wow I have been coming here for so long that I can’t believe I forgot to leave a review! This is my number 1 vegan spot in LA. Not only is the food made fresh everyday, the ingredients used feel super clean! I love making my own bowl but honestly there isn’t an item on this menu that you can get and say something bad about. Heather and Jenny are just the sweetest and their staff embodies their energy and makes the atmosphere wonderful to be in. I even almost worked there myself just because the food and vibes were so good. Also, the food is consistently good. Do yourself a favor and go get some Hey Sunshine!

love it here. my family and I visit La often and always looking for affordable and delicious vegan food. this place did not disappoint. the staff was super chill and accommodating the food was so good and the portions were more than enough to fill myself and husband as well as our 3 daughters (7/11/17)

I got the build your own bowl and it definitely hit the spot. So many yummy options! Also got the "nuggets" which were pretty tasty.

Terrific food, great people! We were greeted with an offer of a sample of macaroni and cheese. Sold! We really enjoyed the crispy chicken and hot chicken. Great atmosphere. We learned the place is owned and worked by two sisters who started as a vegan cooking school and have been vegan for 25 years. Outstanding and caring service!
