They have a great ambience with Japanese style seating and private rooms. The food was all very good but also very pricey. Would recommend the beef tongue and unagi clay pot.

It is clear they are not in the business of providing a pleasant dining experience. We were told they needed to turn the table in an hour fifteen. Ok, no prob. 25 mins in, minutes after our main course came, we were told we had to order anything else we wanted — including sorbet or other deserts. We asked the manager, who said they do this for the convenience of the kitchen. I had had 4 bites of my main, how do I know what I want? The manager was vehement in her defense of this ridiculous policy and said no one complained about it. This was date night, and we don’t get out much. What a waste of a dinner w my partner. Our experience didn’t matter, it was about the kitchen’s convenience. There are plenty of places around just as good with service that cares about your experience. Avoid at all costs.

Reserved a separate room, but did not like to seat on the floor, and needed to take your shoes off. This is only good for younger generation. The food was very good but a little

gochi delivers on all marks - from the cozy japanese table interior, to the friendly service, to the tasty food. this seemingly gimmicky tapas restaurant serves hits all around. the menu is a little overwhelming which is usually a bad sign but all the recommended dishes were great. make sure to book a reservation through yelp. overall, would come back and great with a group to share.hamachi carpaccio: fresh fish, great acidity. would recommendgyuhire grill (beef tenderloin): so flavorful and rich. would recommendyuzu ceviche: another great starter with tasty ceviche. loved the fried chips and yuzu flavorokonomiyaki style pizza: unique pizza dish also pretty good but a little forgettableunagi menshi: must get!! amazing textures from the crispy rice on its own to the soft and warm rice when broth was added. also well seasoned and good unagi portion.

Solid 4 stars. It would’ve been better if we could stay longer than 90 minutes. Food was great. I got the Madai, halibut, saba carpaccio and yaki onigiri, okonimitaki style pizza, tori yuzu. Everything was delicious.

Overall great dining experience. The servers were professional and the food is being served quick and fresh out of wok or oven. That’s really a key for enjoying the dishes. One star deducted for Ankimo, monk fish liver. Look at the measly portion. I will call that a joke. Gochi you could do better.Other than that, all other dishes were great. Presentation to taste are both on point. I forgot to take picture of the clay pot unagi rice with dashi soup. That’s a must try.

Good food. However, the service was not that good. We went in at 5:30 with 6 adults and 2 kids. Started from the beginning, they kept on pushing us to order and said that we had to leave at 7:00. Around 6:30, they then came to remind us again. Bill was sent to us at 6:40.Everyone in our party felt that the dining experience was worse than at McDonald! We felt that we were at a drive through window or something. There were cars behind us honking to ask us to move forward.I will suggest come here for a quick lunch but forget about coming here to have a birthday dinner or family gathering.

Great Japanese tapas - a landmark restaurant that has been around for a while. Always packed (reservations are hard to come by even for weekday lunch) and quality is always good. Nice traditional interior which is good for cozy conversation. Extensive menu. Authentic and highly recommended.

I thought I was in Korea or Japan. A small and real Asian restaurant in San Jose!

We’ve been going here for years. Our last visit was a big disappointment. The service was bad (we were basically ignored) and they wanted to charge me extra to have the Unagi Meshi “crunchy brown” on the bottom. How insulting is to to charge form cooking it properly the same way they’ve done it for 10+ years. And with inflation, prices were over the top. I’m sad to say they’ve lost me as a loyal customer. But maybe they really don’t care because they have enough business…?
