It's unfortunate I've taken to-go lunch orders from here for a while and it was tasty and friendly. I don't know if it's new management but today I met my daughter and son here for dinner and after waiting 40 minutes to server didn't know there was even a waiting list and parties of three tables that apparently were reserved by phone. Just an overall what the hell is going on kind of scene. Did not feel welcome at all I actually mean to give it one star but giving three stars so that people will read it.
My favorite Japanese restaurant in Cypress! You can enjoy the foods and vibes same as Japan.
Most authentic Japanese home styled cuisine.
Dinner has a huge selection of authentic Japanese izakaya dishes, most of which are as good or better than any izakaya in Japan. And very reasonably priced! For those who know what authentic Japanese food is and want it, this is the place to go!
The most authentic Japanese restaurant for miles. Reminded us of our trip to Tokyo. Great food, good people. Hope to see this little hole in the wall thrive for years to come.
For years, I've been coming to Echizen for its authentic Japanese fare and excellent service, which has always been consistent. Tucked in a small plaza across from Cypress College, this is one of my go-to spots for the izakaya menu and daily lunch specials.
Although their lunch menu is limited, many good options exist, especially if you prefer a lighter lunch. The lunch specials go for $14 and are posted on their Instagram daily. @echizencypress. On my recent visit, the lunch special was Chicken Teriyaki with miso soup and a couple of sides. Everything was prepared well and delicious.
The dinner menu at Echizen is extensive, izakaya-style, with a variety of small plates, grilled fish, sashimi, and entrées. Compliment your meal with Japanese Spirits (sake, shochu), beer, wine, or soft drinks.
Here are some of my favorites:
• Zarusoba with tempura shrimp - a classic light dinner item
• Nabeyaki udon - Udon in a clay pot is hot and satisfying
• Onigiri (rice ball) - I always get the salmon, but they have other fillings as well
• Fried soft-shell crab - always light, crispy, and delicious
• Surume tsukeyaki (grilled dry squid) - firm texture, dipping sauce adds a nice additional flavor, great with beer or sake
• Agedashi Tofu - 4 lightly fried tofu pieces with a flavorful sauce.
• Fresh sashimi and grilled fish
Seating is limited inside, with tables and counter options. Sometimes, there can be a wait, so please be courteous and enjoy your meals quickly when people are waiting. I'm happy to support this local establishment and can't wait to visit again!

Just an update for lunch specials! It's such a deal. For $14, you will definitely walk out feeling satisfied.
This day, the lunch special included:
zaru soba - cold buckwheat noodles
veggie tempura
small beef bowl - loaded with grilled onions, ginger, nori
simmered kelp - so healthy for you! Rich in iron and other minerals!
tsukemono - pickles
Service is super nice and pretty quick. Lunchtime, usually, is crowded and requires a wait. But you never know!
If you can, don't take your time. Be courteous so the next party can enjoy the meal too and for the restaurant is able to accommodate more and serve more customers.
We love supporting our neighborhood businesses! We need them as much as they need us.

This is an authentic Japanese restaurant in this town. Please don't mind Lloyd Seo's awful review. He leaves bad reviews for many restaurants—I have checked his recent reviews.

The best. My family and I love this place. From the lunch and the daily specials to the authentic cuisine that is a rarity these days. The Sashimi is always top grade and fresh. Everything from the butterfish, chicken teriyaki to the Nabeyaki Udon is on point. The chef is the owner and cares about his craft. Going to miss him when he retires soon.

I was told by a Japanese friend that this place was authentic, so I was excited to try it. So many dishes with which I wasn't familiar that were super delicious! I'll definitely go back! It's a pretty small place, so don't go with a huge group.

many good skewer options
If you cannot handle your menu, hire more cooks, reduce the menu, or try to drink less and focus on it. Your oyster smells, chicken has gone bad, garlic is all burnt and tongue is so chewy because you didn't remove the skin part! Don't be lazy with your work old man. Your attitude is only acceptable when your food is on the point.Respect customers by preparing fresh food
