Food on the menu was falsely advertised. Out of bread, out of potatoes, out of wedge salad, no burgers, no French dip.Waiting 30 mins for a coke, no salad delivered, shrimp appetizer with french fries??!!
This place is a really nice place to go. Good food great service from the bar service to the wait staff just the atmosphere in general I truly enjoyed it. Unfortunately it is closer the 10th and I hope somebody decides to step in and take over cuz it's going to be sad to see this place go I've been going there since I was a kid. The service is always been great atmosphere is always been great the food is always been great it's really sad to see this place go. ??
Portions were good but kind of expensive. Hard to place a take out order and it took longer than expected for the food to be ready. Side salad was missing and the potatoes didn't have more than a drop of gravy on them.
Stayed in the Hampton Inn and staff recommended Val’s as best around. Punches about it’s weight. Probably a nice place one time. The dining room looked tired so decided to just have bar food and same menu available. The bar seemed to be the popular local. It was pricey for the tired looking decor and lack of any wow factor. The V on the outside sign was not working, can happen lights go but once in it was obvious no one had much interest any more and the regulars liked it. Food was ok, don’t think they were looking for accolades and not likely to get them either. Staff were friendly.
The server that we had was not competent for his job. I ordered 3 menu items and had to repeat them 5 times to for him to understand. We did not receive water refills, I asked for ketchup that never came, we asked which vegetables came with the meal we ordered and he answered “I don’t know, if it’s a surprise”. We asked if there were alternative dressings besides the Italian and were met with “yeah, I don’t know. We have others but this one comes with the salad”. Then there was the food. So much of this food is “fishy” and pre-frozen. Crab is easy, and really hard to mess up, but they have figured out how to make it gross. We waited 45 minutes to be brought bread. We thought perhaps they were baking it. When it came, it was cold and hard. The swordfish tasted bad, everything is overpriced now for the poor quality. We will not come again and do not recommend this spot to others. With how expensive it is here now, you can pay the same for much better food elsewhere.
Minestroni soup was hot and tasty, salad was cold, fresh and crisp, Appetizer, bacon rapped shrimp was hot and delicious, unfortunately my meal came out luke warm, but also tasty, primerib. My husband's lamb was over cooked, but think our server was new and may have put in the cook time wrong. She was very friendly and will become great with a little training. Overall we will eat here again.
One of the last remaining cozy diner/restaurant/bar establishments. Please continue to give them your business so they won't have to shut down like so many other places in Bay Area and around the country.
We came to Val’s on a Tuesday evening and had a great time! We sat in the bar, where they had piano-accompanied open mic night (the woman playing the piano was amazing!) Definitely seemed like they have a lot of regulars who come for this every week who were all having a great time. It was very entertaining to watch and a bunch of the people were actually great singers. Our waitress was fantastic, super fun. We got our drinks very quickly and they were all strong. Food was classic American comfort food, and the mashed potatoes especially were amazing.
Our first time there. My wife ordered the onion soup but the chicken soup came instead. I had the ravioli, my wife the chicken parmigiana and our friend the enchiladas (special). Salads & wines were good. The cooked food was way too salty for us and left a bad taste in our mouths. Even an hour later we all had a strange taste that was not comfortable. Service was OK, other than the soup mix-up. We won’t go back.
ARE YOU KIDDING ME?!!!What an Outstanding Experience in San Francisco Dining! Flora, Our "Atmosphere adjustment Guru", because calling her Our "Waitress" is too under what her and her table crew was able to accomplish...And THAT was keeping us, our party of 6, quickly on task, of enjoying our time there. We're from SoCal and to have this as our Opening of the weekend Dinner was FANTASTIC!!! If we're in town again, (and we should be) it's gonna be good eats!!!Thanks Val's

Bad experience with the wait staff, food quality, and incorrect orders. I feel like they are trying to get their sea legs back after the pandemic and haven't got it right yet.
Val’s is a great old-time neighborhood Italian steakhouse. It has lots of regulars in the restaurant and bar. The Prime Rib was wonderful and the service was outstanding. We really enjoyed our dining experience.
Customer service was great That's why I gave it three stars. As far as the food was not impressed I ordered my steak medium It came out well done and charred and crispy My wife ordered the black and red snapper which was also over seasoned and dry. Other than that it was okay but I will never get a steak here again.
Super cute cozy restaurant. Gives off a very retro vibe. The bar looked gorgeous and it seemed rather spacious. The food was good. I enjoyed the dish I got. I would say I wish I got a steak but I was trying to be fake healthy. I will most definitely go again when I can.The only thing I would say is that the calamari was pretty salty but I still enjoyed it especially the sauce!Plus side there is a small parking lot. Which is great I was able to find parking easily and get in and out without a problem. Also it seemed like a great place to take your kids as well!
This restaurant is Around the corner from my house. Ive been coming here to eat every once in a while for the last 4 years and I have never have a bad experience. Servers are always nice and food is tasty. I love the old fashion atmosphere here. Not the ultimate millenial- hispster everyone is looking for. I am glad it is still open during Covid. Please support small businesses like this one. Restaurant industry is still suffering. Businesses like Vals are really important for the community as they provide employment for a many low income families. I want my children to have a place like this one when they grow older.I had a margarita and a take our order and everything was delicious.
