Excruciatingly slow service... waited for 40 minutes for an appetizer and an entree and the food isn't even good ... I guess it's more about the location. Idk.

A great venue with fantastic staff. Great seafood and cooks that understand the subtleties of bringing out amazing flavours.
We had the English fish and chips and a side of scallops that were to die for.
Would travel back again and again for this place.

Delicious crispy beer battered Alaskan cod. Highly recommended for a classic meal.
Service with a smile and beautiful sunset views.

Great food, terrible service, very short on employees, they are not able to manage the flow, even though not all that busy, tables are not cleaned from one customer to the next, overall extremely slow for service, very long wait for waiters take orders, very long time to receive food, even very long time to be able to pay.

A Dana Point classic staple and best Fish n Chips in the area. In addition they have a great fish market and after you eat or before you can do a lovely walk around the harbor and area. Been coming here for most my life and will always come back when I get thst craving

Fish while fresh, not well prepared, food at best under average, service horrible. Avoid that place, there are better options around with much greater quality and service.

I have been coming here since I was a child. Always remember the yummy shrimp and soup. However after the experience I had last yr and now this past weekend I don't think I'll be returning. Family memories or not. Something has changed in the running of this place as far as staff and cooks. Last yr I was charged incorrectly and way too much, when he went to fix it he simply charged the same amount again! I finally paid a 3rd time my correct bill and was told that they refunded the 1st 2 transactions which id see in a few days. That never happened. I don't live close so couldn't just go in with my receipts to prove it and fix it. So i had to just suck it up. That also included the fact my fish was dry and the wrong frys. I went again this weekend when visiting my sickly mother as she still is attached to the place. While the shrimp was good as it usually is minus overly battered, once again out of 5 orders only 1 had the correct frys. Sounds like no biggie but when you have kids it's a big deal lol. Not too mention we don't like their string frys as they tend to be dryer and get cold quick so we asked for all steak frys. Nope, got all string except 1 order. In addition my husband got jhons combo and due to diet issues he peeled off the breading. The size of the fish and scallops were so small it was insulting. They used to have an amazing manager but I havent seen her there for some time. Idk if her being gone is the result but the price you pay for what you get isn't worth it anymore. Too many good places down there with better food and service.

This was a great little place to go after going on a whale watching tour. Ww loved the fish and chips. The clam chowder was delicious but it wasn't very hot. Was hoping for it to be steaming hot as we ate outside on this cool day

My husband and I have eaten at John’s fish market since the early 2000’s. It’s the best lightly breaded fresh fried cod we’ve ever had! 4 HUGH pieces of fish, look at the pile of fresh fries and slaw. One plate is plenty for both of us. The location is beautiful. Lots of shops and right next to the Marina. It was a lovely day. Try it, you’ll love it!! 🤗

Wait…wait…wait…I was really excited to eat here. I arrived and waited in line while a couple restaurant folks chatted away. Finally someone shoved a menu at me, said sit where ever I wanted and then….wait. It was 1 in the afternoon, there were 4 other tables and no one came to take a drink or food order. 20 mins later the table next to me, seated before me, left without anyone taking an order. After 5 more mins with no one coming, I left and went to nearby Harpoon Henry’s where I was promptly served delicious food.

What an absolutely miserable dining experience I had at this place! A 45-minute wait in a half empty restaurant to get two pieces of fish, coleslaw and a beer with clam chowder. Three other tables were served well after our arrival and when I told the server to cancel the order it finally came out with no coleslaw, no soup and a load of french fries that I never ordered! I even had to get up and asked to get my beer because it never came to the table! I paid the $27 Bill and left having never even sampled the food. There are a half dozen other places in this area where you can get good service and decent food. This place needs to fold their business and go home!!!

Fabulous food and service. Favorite seafood spot. Absolutely as fresh as it gets, both dining and the market. Amazing staff and beautiful location. Once you've tried it, you'll be hooked. 🎣

The food was so good & fresh. I ordered calm chowder soup bowl, combo fish plate. The food was not greasy or salty. The prices are good, I'll be back.

Parking: During the holidays the area is decorated so nice with the lights.

Second rate spot charging first rate prices. These guys making a killing selling fish because of location. $6 or $7 for a cup of mix n match salad. $25 for fried fish and chips more fried batter than fish. Small lobsters $50 a pop. GTFOH with this place with its sup par food and over the top prices.

Didn’t try the food just came here for a couple of beers. They don’t have any on tap so it’s essentially a fish market and they will serve you fresh fish, which I’m sure is very good.
I did fall in love with the trestles beer, which is from a local San Clemente brewery!
