The food at Hunan Bar & Restaurant is really disappointing, the taste is bland and lacks the spiciness and unique flavor that Hunan cuisine should have. As the only Hunan restaurant near the university, although it has certain conveniences, it can only be said to be a make-do. Overall, although it is not difficult to swallow, it is definitely not delicious. The service quality is also average. If you really want to eat Hunan cuisine but don’t want to travel far, you can try this place, but don’t expect too much.

Went in at 8pm on a Saturday evening, they close at 9 pm. 1st off it was hot in the restaurant, and didn’t feel like the AC was running. I ordered the Sweet/Sour Chicken Meal for 1. There was nothing positive to say about the service or the food, which makes me sad, as I use to live this place.

I was pleasantly surprised by the authenticity of this Hunan restaurant. I ordered four dishes in total, and the overall quality exceeded my expectations. The Changsha stinky tofu was the first time I’ve experienced such authentic stinky tofu in the entire US. Although it was listed under the cold dishes, it was actually served hot. The tofu was incredibly juicy and flavorful. The rice noodles were also exceptional, especially considering the price range. The pork intestines were prepared nicely as well. I must say, students in this area are fortunate to have access to such an authentic Chinese restaurant at a relatively reasonable price.

We came to this restaurant thinking I was great with the reviews and from word of mouth from locals but it anything but great. The waiter was really weird standing over our table rushing us to order the moment we walked in. I ordered calamari and 2 of the hot pots but the calamari was raw and chewy and the hot pots veggies were somehow still raw and grainy like they didn’t wash them. The meat it’s self in the hot pot was also somehow raw. The food was plain and tasteless and the mushrooms made everything slimy. we waited to tell the waiter, but the waiter never even came back to our table. There was no one else in the restaurant. After waiting 30-45 mins of getting our food we never ate, one of the waiters finally came out. We told them the situation and he didn't acknowledge our complaint or at least offer a discount on the inedible food.

Pretty authentic flavors.We were a big party of 13 and at the end they gave the remaining 5 of us free soup. Fried rice is nice texture, pretty decent spicy dishes here. Coming from the bay, it's average food for the price of around $16/dish.Also, if you like walnut shrimp, it's good here.

This is an absolutely amazing Chinese option located in Davis. I was actually on my way to another one Google recommended, but past Hunan on on the way. I decided to walk in there instead because I was extremely hungry. I don't regret my decision one bit. Great food served VERY fast, and they gave me a free bowl of ice cream after paying for the meal!
