We went and did the all you can eat hotpot for my birthday dinner and had a fantastic experience! The staff were so friendly and accommodating, they really made the experience worth it (even though they ran out of some hotpot ingredients). I also enjoyed spinning the birthday prize wheel and the food itself was quality. I'll definitely be coming back!

The food was decent but the service was one of the worst I've ever experienced. Unfortunately, the restaurant was out of minced garlic and green onions that they usually serve so the food was a blander than usual. I personally have worked in multiple restaurants so I know how it can be during a special day but I never would have acted the way our server was acting. My partner and I came in on a busy night since it was the last day of their BOGO special so I understand it was very hectic, but our server was terrible. He would constantly just run by and slam our food on our table without saying anything, looking at us, or even telling us which item was which. When we were trying to place our order, he took my partner's order and walked away without saying anything without even taking my order. We had to call him back to get my order or else I would have been sitting there with no food. We had to constantly remind our server about items we ordered that never came and nobody even turned on our stovetop for our hotpot. We had to turn it on ourselves otherwise we would have just been left there with cold soup and raw meat. At the end of our meal, the server just looked at us and didn't even say thank you as we were leaving. The female server working on other tables that same night was great and she still took time to tell us which soup was which when dropped off. The overall atmosphere was okay, but it was also partially ruined by our same server having to apologize to every table around us for making constant mistakes one after another. My partner and I have been to this restaurant on multiple occasions and the service has been great but this time really was a disappointing visit.

AYCE Japanese hot pot restaurant, located in downtown Davis. The meat quality is surprisingly good, and there are also some good veggie and carb options. Soup flavor was decent. Menu can be confusing, but the staff patiently explained all the options. Large free parking lot behind the restaurant, but it fills up quickly, especially on weekends.

We always love shabu and decided to try Shabu Shack while visiting Davis. Went for the Gold Tier and it was excellent. It is an all you can eat buffet but they only allow you to order 1 protein per person at a time. We tasted all the protein and the American waygu beef was delicious. Service was good and fast. I also went for the $12 all you can drink beer which was surely a good value for those who enjoy some beer with your shabu.

Clean and easy and fast. It was empty when I went in at 5pm on a Saturday but within an hour the place was packed. The soups are good, meat quality was nice. AYCE for 3 people plus drinks was roughly 190 after tip. Was worth it. The service could be faster but the meat comes in such huge quantities it makes up for the slightly longer time you have to wait for more meat. All in all, I would come back again and quite regularly!
Bonus, ice cream was also complimentary and pretty tasty!
