Walked from the UCD Campus to try the supposedly best Mexican food in Davis, but I'll never know because they were closed 😩 Everything said they should be open: Google Maps, the signs they had posted on the glass, and the 'away' sign said they should have been back at 12:30 (I came on Saturday at 1:25 PM and stayed till 2, assuming they were on lunch). I guess I'll never know if it's the best because it's not a walk I'm going to do again anytime soon 🚶♀️🌮

The best service! Everyone is always friendly! I come every Friday! And during the winter when they serve Pozole I always order double so I can enjoy it for a few days! The best Pozole I’ve ever had (and I’ve had a lot)! My boyfriend loves their Carne Asada Fries as well. Their carne asada is delicious! Best in Davis, no comparison, probably best in California!

Great hole-in-the-wall Mexican joint. Found this gem while visiting my kid at UC Davis and I was so glad I did. Ordered a burrito with carnitas and it was excellent. The carnitas were not greasy or fatty and the beans were super tasty. The Mexican rice was perfectly cooked with a nice tomato flavor to it. Just like mom used to make. Super friendly service and the establishment was clean and welcoming. A must try.

Ordered 3 tacos (2 pastor, 1 carne asada). The tacos were huge and delicious. The chips and salsa were $2-3. That alone is outrageous when Taqueria Guadalajara offers free chips and salsa. The chips were the epitome of mid; I'm sure these are purchased from target or Safeway. The salsa was nice, though.

Taqueria is everything UC Davis isn’t: bold, satisfying, and actually worth your time. While Davis pretends to be a top-tier school, it’s really just a low-tier campus with inflated hype and students who think riding bikes counts as a personality. Meanwhile, Taqueria serves real food with real flavor — no pretense, no fluff. If you want value, spice, and something that doesn’t waste your time (unlike a UC Davis degree), this is the spot.
