Name has changed to Davis Wine. Excellent wine selection to buy retail. Food choices are limited, and the only cheese selections are cow's milk.

Just remodeled with expanded selection of wines by the bottle in addition to the wine vending dispenser. Prices comparable to the local supermarkets. Cheese platter was a deal.

The space is super intimate and warm, the staff is attentive and willing to help you choose the right wine(s) for the night. I love their great variety and the ease of use. The service was excellent! We got several tastings on the house to try the wines prior to the place purchasing them for sales. Huge selection of wines, cool vibe for grown ups in a college town. We had the spinach artichoke dip and it was amazing. We will definitely be back, we had a great time

In concept, this is really great. Go up to the barman, get a card, and self-serve small pours of many different wines. Have wine-accompanying nibbles to go with them. Sample, learn, enjoy. The pours are, of course, overpriced. You are effectively paying $16/glass for wine at the lowest rate, and up to $35/glass at the highest rate. But this is always true of smaller packages. No, where it falls down is in the execution of that overpriced wine concept. First: the food. I don't know why this Yelp page shows naan pizzas and other warm treats. The only warm food you can get is spinach and artichoke dip that they'll heat in an oven for you. Most of it is cold snacks. Now, that is also fine, cheese goes great with wine. Except that the "charcuterie and cheese board" is... gouda, supermarket-style goat cheese bouton, and manchego. With anonymous salami and some of the saddest little Kalamatas I've ever seen. WE ARE IN CALIFORNIA. PEOPLE MAKE CHEESE HERE. Make an effort to actually showcase something local and good. Which leads to the wine! Same complaint -- we are literally fifteen minutes' walk from one of the major winemaking schools of the world. There are so many interesting California wines that could be showcased. Instead, over 50% of the selection is from overseas. (And oddly, these are the lower priced ones?) It's really disappointing that they missed this opportunity. Hard to imagine why it'd be worth coming here regularly.

I have never noticed VINI Wine Bar in the 2 years I've lived in Davis. This little wine bar is a hidden gem, and I'm glad a friend recommended this place to me! I love how VINI is a cozy and small bar that has self-pour stations with different wine selections. You can pour about 2-3oz of each wine (~ $4-$8 a pour) into your glass by pressing a bottom located next to the wine label. I love how each wine selection has a personal card that describes the location of origin and flavor such as reds, roses, and whites. How does it work? You get a prepaid card and you can put any amount into it. There is a card slot on top of the wine label where you insert your card and then you press the button and it pours you the perfect glass. Another cool thing about VINI is that if you like any particular wine, you can go to the front desk and purchase yourself a bottle! This is a great place for wine tasting and to hang out for a girls night out without having to drive all the way to Napa or Sonoma. The wine var was warm and intimate. Very cute little bar. I also love how friendly and attentive the employees are! He showed us how to use the self-pour systems and always checked up on us. They were willing to provide help choosing the right wine for all of our taste buds.

I was a little anxious about coming here because of previous yelp reviewers feeling unwelcomed as people color, and because that sign posted in one of the reviews below is 100% racist and islamophobic. But I came here last night for a work happy hour and was pleasantly surprised. They had taken that sign down, and the sample-your-own-wine concept was very fun. I just wish they served more food/served more consistently since half the fun of drinking is eating yummy food with it!
