Food preparations are nice quality for a hotel restaurant, showing some care in the presentation and in house-making their sauces.

Our experience at this so-called Mexican “cantina” was disappointing from start to finish.

First, they didn’t even have a blender to make a basic margarita. Several of our drinks (just sodas, not cocktails) were forgotten, three in total, and when they finally arrived, they took forever. The server never checked in on us, didn’t offer refills, and seemed genuinely annoyed by our presence, as though we were a burden.

The food was another issue. The “shareable” menu was completely misleading. For example, sopes were listed under shareables (plural), but when it finally arrived late, it was just a single sope, priced at $18. That kind of presentation felt deceptive.

To make matters worse, the bill was not transparent at all. A gratuity had been added without any explanation, and we unknowingly left an additional tip on top of it. When we politely asked about a breakdown, the server snapped that we’d only receive it after paying. It felt dismissive and unprofessional.

Overall, the food was late, the drinks were delayed, the service unfriendly, and we didn’t feel welcomed to stay, despite it not being close to closing time. Between the lack of transparency, the misleading menu, and the unprofessional service, this was one of the least welcoming dining experiences I’ve had.

It tasted good, but it is overpriced compared to other restaurants. The portions were extremely small, and I had to supplement my takout dinner with some other food.

The pizza is horrible. Should not be served to humans.

Please don't be fooled by this establishments overall ratings. I'll break it down by category. Note this was for dinner coming in around 7p after the Del Mar races finished.

Food: 2.5 - We tried the Turkey Club and California Burrito. Both were just ok and nothing to write home about. Turkey club was supposed to have bacon but instead they substituted ham. I assume this is because they ran out of bacon?? Regardless it didn't have alot of flavor and I was forced to add mustard and mayo to make it edible. The California burrito was also just ok. It was loaded on French fries and very little meat. I thought it needed salsa but was told they don't have any and gave me Tabasco.

Service: 0 star. When we came in, the place was nearly empty. We asked to sit together and we had to put our own tables together. Because we had a decent sized group (12) I did expect to have to wait for our food. It took almost 1hr after ordering! We didn't get our food until almost 815. Drink service was terrible. We were looking for our server on many occasions as she would disappear randomly and never checked in on us. Drinks were not refilled timely at all and at one point, 1 member of our party went up to get the pitcher of water and refilled our glasses. Had the waitress been on top of her game, our party easily would have had 2-3 drinks each. Instead most of us had 1 and if lucky got a 2nd. Very disappointed with their service. To top it off, Nicole (our server) had 0 personality. She auto added 20% tip and then tricked many of us into adding additional tip because she wouldn't provide the itemized receipt until after we paid. Very shoddy business here.

Overall: Save yourself the headache. You may be tired after the races but do yourself a favor and go somewhere else. In fact, I'd even go to Dennys over this place. There are plenty of other local businesses to eat that are within 10m drive (Lyft / Uber) that offer much better food and service.

The food and service were outstanding! The breakfast potatoes were particularly exceptional. I also had dinner there once and enjoyed the wings, which were very good. All the servers were friendly and pleasant. I would expect nothing less from a Hilton restaurant.

At 9pm I place a to go order and waited in the dining area. The food took 45 minutes to arrive. The $14 chicken sandwich had a patty on it that was paper thin and the same as you’d get on an elementary school lunch. For a kids menu item for $7, sure. For $14 they should at least try to use some real chicken. The bun is good and the sauce is good. Maybe opt for the burger instead.

Food was good. However, the waitress Eva was not.

Is it too much to ask to not be treated like a nuisance? I’m not sure if she was having a bad day or something, but after a long day of work, the last thing I want is to be treated like I’m being annoying for… Asking for basic things like food and silverware at a restaurant?

Also, best not to bring up limes balled up in your hand and put them on the bare table when I’m going to be putting them in my drink…. This was an odd experience, to say the least

Good luck getting any service. It's the only restaurant at the Hilton hotel in Del Mar, so that was our only option for a quick drink before dinner, I ordered one drink & never saw the bartender again at happy hour. There wasn't one person at the bar/restaurant for a good 20 minutes. I saw 3 people leave because no one was there for a food or drink order. Not to mention, there was only one person working when we checked in at 10 pm on a Sunday night. It took 20 minutes just to do that. I won't stay here again.

Food is adequate, the bartender and waiters need some customer service training, very slow on a very slow evening..

Hotel staff said bar/restaurant was open until 11, but when we got there at 10, the bartender made it seem like they were closing soon. Then when food arrived she gave us plastic cutlery and when we asked about it it, she said all regular cutlery was dirty!!!???? Plastic cup at bar for water too. Felt like she wanted us gone.

When traveling, as a general rule, I find eating in local restaurants better than having dinner in the hotel. But sometimes, when I’m tired, as I was last night, I chose the convenience of the hotel.Last night ‘s late dinner at Coastal Kitchen was convenient but a bit disappointing. My wife’s chicken tasted …well…weird. Having been in France a lot recently, I was expecting pate on the charcuterie board. That was probably my fault. The salads were fine. But the best thing was the bread and butter, for which they charge extra.Hoping to have a good breakfast in a few hours.
