This place is amazing. Great soul food. I lived in the south for 20 years and California food is not the same so this was a pleasant surprise and the food is always delicious. The staff are always friendly and the environment is clean and nice to dine in.

The southern fried chicken plate is my go to meal. What I really appreciate about Cherie's is that the chicken is ALWAYS WELL DONE. It's never raw which is so refreshing because other places I've been to thr chicken is way too chewy. However here they take care of their food and it always prepared fresh. They also ALWAYS keep their establishment clean and they are super nice! I really recommend this place to bring friends and family and even for special occasions.Kid-friendliness: Please bring your kids. I know they will love the food. The environment is very clean too so you won't have to worry about you kids potentially touching dirty surfaces.Wheelchair accessibility: Since this place is right in front of the movie, theaters anyone on a wheelchair can access the restaurant, no problem. Just be careful crossing because some cars love to speed in front of that area for some reason.

My cousin is super picky about food so when she recommended this place I knew it was going to be good.Went here on my way to a meeting recently. They have a good menu with lots of options. The good is made fresh so you’ll wait a few minutes for the food but it’s worth the wait.I decided to get the catfish with yams and greens (I’ll get the seafood gumbo next time). I also ordered the caramel peach cobbler. Everything was great, everything had a lot of flavor, the catfish wasn’t greasy and was seasoned and cooked perfectly.I love supporting small businesses and the people were very nice they talked to me and thanked me for coming in. This is family owned so go support them!!!

The place is nice and clean and play great music . I can’t speak for all the food but what I had I didn’t enjoy it . I had the fried chicken and yams and Mac and cheese and the cornbread and collard greens .. the fried chicken has absolutely no seasoning …. The Mac and cheese not sure what happened but the cheese wasn’t stuck to the noodles … the yams were so soupy …. So much water .. I’m use to my candied yams being in thick juice and sweet …. The collard greens were over cooked and tough and no season … again I can only speak for what I ate . I liked the cornbread.

Ok..so I’ve been to this restaurant about 10 times because I like to get multiple experiences at a restaurant before I form a true opinion.I have this a 3/5 stars but honestly, it’s more like 2/5.There are 3 main issues with this place:1) Always out of items. Now while this may seem like it’s a good thing because they’re selling, as a customer, it’s really annoying. Mind you, I’ve been to this place 10 times and at least 6, they’ve been sold out of multiple items.2) TIME!! Again, I’ve been 10 times and EVERYTIME, it has taken at least 45 minutes to get my food. I always order take out and it still takes at least 45 minutes. Almost 1 hour a couple of times. There’s no reason it should take this long. I could cook at home if it takes that long. Also keep in mind, my usual order isn’t even hard to cook. Chicken, Mac N Cheese (mostly sold out) and collard greens. It shouldn’t take that long.3) The food is ok. Not bad but not worth a 45min wait.

Upon entering there was a small line of regulars. The cashiers was nice. The owner and additional cook looked nervous for some reason as the sign on the I internet says “ smile more worry less”. Nevertheless, I persisted as I wanted to give this place an honest try. This is an excellent place for non cooks, young people and the elderly. I say this as I order the most simplest sure bet items. Great presentation. The wings are not wings they’re drummettes ? the greens turkey was not fresh, the macaroni and cheese ? The lemonade was mostly sugar? the cake was DRRY? I mean. Maybe this why the cooks looked nervous they knew/know ?This is the one thing that get’s me. Save money , open maybe a Truck or stationary unit to perfect technique, build commerce. This was not worth $40. No ma’am. Maybe it’s the seafood. All the reviews must be friends and fame or investors. I didn’t add photos of cake cause just save your $8. Maybe it the pudding that’s the specialty.

Solid location for southern food. Price, ambience, service and of course food was great. Though this was my first visit to try this spot. The food was great which deserves a re-visit so I can try their other dishes like the fried catfish plate. I recommend you use try this spot. But know it's not fast food so when you order it is made to order and all food is hot and fresh.

Outstanding food and owner. This is an absolute must!!!!! Let's keep this business in town because we really needed this. Truly Southern!

The Bay Area is home to so many people, mostly transplanted from across the globe. One food category the east bay has been missing, or has never done well is the meat and three. For those not familiar, a "meat and three" is a Southern culinary tradition where diners choose one meat dish and three side dishes. The meal is often served with sweet tea and pie. The meat is usually a choice of fried chicken, catfish, or brisket. The sides are typically ham hock greens, sweet potato dishes, and some homemade dessert like pecan pie, banana pudding or caramel cake. The minute you step into the no-frills and tastefully decorated Cherie's you know you are in for a hospitable southern experience. The friendly greeting at the counter, and the smells coming from the kitchen, as you read the menu, make it easy to want to come back before you even order. On this, my first trip, I ordered the fried chicken plate with thighs, and my 2 sides were collard greens and Mac n cheese. Cherie's knows how to do greens, a beautiful prep job and perfect balance of acidity and ham hock. The chicken was fried to perfection. I prefer a little more seasoning than what was on my pieces, but they also have a crystal hot sauce bottle on every table....so deal with it! They charge extra for white meat, which they should because you should be ashamed of yourself. My wife loves white meat and when I bring her back she can let me know how that is. The cornbread and Mac n cheese were perfect staples and well prepared. I ordered a banana pudding to go, but ended up gobbling that up at the first stop light. It was delicious...nilla wafers and all. I can't wait to come back and bring all my friends, those who know a meat and three and those who don't. Thank you Cherie's for a great meal. See y'all soon!!!

I love Southern food and was excited to see Cherie's open in the Tri Valley last year. It's only been open for about 8 months, and has received mostly very high ratings, but we did read through some of the negative reviews too and can address a bit of them here. First, we were super early, so the place was empty, but we were welcomed with friendly service and an awesome jukebox playing Earth Wind & Fire. We ordered the gumbo (chicken, sausage and crab), fried chicken, collard greens with smoked turkey, and baked beans. We waited about 25 minutes for our food (wait times were often mentioned in the negative reviews), which does seem like a long time considering we were the only ones in there. BUT when you have the owner in the back making your gumbo and fried chicken from scratch with some extra Southern TLC, trust me when I say just be patient and enjoy your company cuz it'll be worth it. The gumbo - the broth was amazing, the portions are very generous, including 2 crab legs and claw, and the sausage in the gumbo was some of the best sausage I've had in a long time. The fried chicken - super crispy with the perfect amount of seasoning (it was not too salty as some reviews suggested). The baked beans had a lot of flavor and just the right amount of sweetness. The collard greens were cooked perfectly. And you can never go wrong with cornbread! We need Cherie's to succeed because the food is amazing!! So please give this place a try!!
