Highly counterfeit products. Repackage counterfeit Potato chips which causes coughing. Rebottled strange water that dries out mucus membranes and cause constipation and insomnia. Genetically Modification of produce which causes rashes to occur after consumption. Overt Surveillance on designated customers. Rebotted Soda and chocolate that causes diarrhea. Bakery goods which causes constipation. Warnings over store intercom to Harrass and stalk paying customers with code" 2000" and location of department of individuals being stalked.
There's so much to complain about with safeway. Unfortunately it's the closest grocery store to me and it's not worth driving to the a different store just to avoid safeway. It seems that employees are impossible to find here. It doesn't matter if I need help at the customer service desk, at the self checkout line, or at the bakery, there's never an employee to be found. Last time I went to the customer service desk, there were 3 of us waiting for an employee and no employee was around. The cashiers kept ignoring us like we were invisible, and finally after about 15 minutes someone showed up to help. Then I went to use the self checkout, and the system required an employee to enter a pin. Of course there was no employee anywhere. It wouldn't even let me cancel the transaction to start over on my own. So I packed all my items back in the cart, got back in line, checked out at a different register, and as I was walking out an employee finally showed up to fix the first register. Do these employees just go hide somewhere to avoid work?
Well despite how I feel about this Safeway I will continue shopping here because it's close by and reasonably priced. That being said, this place is a freaking disaster. We have lived in east bay for about 2 years and shop here weekly and it is always the same thing. So crowded. Not just a lot of people it's the aisles that are extremely over crowded with merchandise and promotional stuff. You can barely get thru an aisle without running into someone and having to back up and maneuver around them because the aisles are just too small! I would think its a hazard for sure. They are under staffed and a number of the checkers are pretty grumpy. Now this place is ALWAYS busy and the lines are ALWAYS super long that go far down the aisles. If you can avoid this place, I'd recommend it.
When it comes to big companies screwing over the little people, Safeway can be added to the list. On December 14, 2020 we purchased 3 E-Bay gift cards for $100 each to lend to a friend that we thought was in distress until we went to her home and found out it was a scam. Within 30 minutes we returned the unused gift cards to Safeway only to find out that they would not refund our purchase. They told us we had to contact E-Bay to get the cards canceled and once E-Bay returned the $300 to Safeway they would refund our $300. We followed the procedures and E-Bay canceled the card and refunded to Safeway within two days, yet here on December 30, 2020 Safeway is yet to refund our $300. Per my discussion with a Safeway phone representative, the refund to Safeway was confirmed but our refund from Safeway my take 3 to 5 weeks because their accounting department needs time. In a world of technology I know this is a bunch of bull and they're just taking advantage of the situation but what can you do? NEVER EVER BUY ANOTHER GIFT CARD and don't be so quick to help a friend that can't pick up the phone and talk to you. Live and Learn!
It's the Monday before Thanksgiving and if your gonna get a turkey you'll need to get it today to properly defrost it by Thursday. Covid 19 has changed all of our lives this year and our normal festive gatherings of friends and family has been dampened and whittled down to four. So, I went to my normal Safeway nearest to my home but found hoards of people picking over the freezer for their thanksgiving turkey. With just a smaller gathering a small Butterball turkey was on my list. No more Butterballs in San Ramon Safeway. Plan B. Pleasanton being the Corporate Headquarters of Safeway we have a couple of flagship stores just down the street in Dublin. I thought since the Dublin store was bigger, nicer and better stocked they would have what I was looking for. Yahtzee ! Found my Butterball turkey and all of the other items I was looking for including Diet Dr. Pepper. Safeway dominates the grocery chains in the Tri-Valley but not all the stores are the same. The West Dublin store on Dublin Blvd. is the Safeway prototype and has a gas station. The ingress and exit to the smaller parking lot is a little tricky.
Rachel would not let me check out with my Safeway app & have me grief for wanting to use it. She would not let me cancel and re-start my self checkout. She was not accommodating even though all I wanted was to use my one dollar coupon from the "Just for u" app. The store itself is big and has a lot to offer, well lit and clean. The 2 stars off is for Rachel's customer service at self check out.
So disappointed! I purchased this yesterday! It already has mildew!Disgusting! Thanks a lot Safeway!
Pharmacists at pharmacy have become extremely rude lately... I drop off my prescription 2 to 3 days in advanced and still when I come in to pick it up they have not prepared it. In this specific case, I dropped of my prescription 8/26/2020. I spoke the the pharmacist on 8/28/2020 and they ensured my my medication would be ready the following day. Still, I get here and am waiting 20+ minutes for them to fill the prescription. There is no explanation or apology on their end, just "yeah.. we need 15 minutes to get your prescriptions ready."
Five Stars: 1) Plenty of Parking 2) Sanitized shopping carts 3) Clean store with wide aisles 4) Self-checkout 5) Very helpful staff Perks include: Amazon Lockers Safeway gas station US Bank ATM
This review is for the bakery. This is the second time I've ordered a cake here and each time I've been very pleased with the design and the quality of the cakes. Very good service and have never had one person not like the cake.

Safeway is doing really well during this Covid-19 pandemic. Everything is pre-packaged and you're unable to pick and choose any open food like in the past such as donuts, chicken tenders, bulk trail mix, etc. They have announcements frequently reminding you about social distancing and are quick to restock. I really appreciate how hard the workers of Safeway are working during this pandemic. Thanks guys!
PSA for all Covid-19 shoppers in the Tri-valley: Came here on a Monday a little after noon and it was well-stocked. No, I did not check the toilet paper aisle or the cleaning supplies or hand sanitizer. But there were plenty of fresh meat and produce, dairy products, eggs, and most of the frozen food section was still standing (a little thin in the frozen potato section, but I still managed to get the last package of what I wanted, which was tater tots). I was able to get everything that I wanted. The store did not seem understaffed either, but then again there were maybe 10 shoppers in the store besides me. Usually this place is hit and miss, but after my in-laws were not able to get everything they needed at their local Safeway, it was nice to come here and see it well stocked. You're welcome.
Phew, I think the COVID-19 panic buying is slowing down. The store was fairly well stocked, like the meat area wasn't cleared out. They had signs limiting people to two. I got what I came for. The store wasn't too crowded, not that many inside. Dropped by Thursday evening after work, seems like a good time.
I pulled into the parking spot for orders to be delivered to our cars, then called to have them bring it out. We made this order a few days ago for a manager's meeting we were having in San Leandro. Jessica T came out to say they were having a problem with pulling my order, then she looked and saw it was for platters, we can't pull that & it's going to be 20 minutes. I, of course, flipped out. I know it was not her fault but she also didn't know how important this meeting was and for me not to have any hiccups. I didn't know for a few minutes what I was going to do, then Jessica T came up with a way to fix the problem. I was THRILLED with Jessica 's outstanding customer service! Thank You Jessica you rock! We need more people like her that really care about her customers! Jessica, I'm sorry I yelled. Everyone loved the food. Cathi
