You definitely don't get what you pay for at Ike's, and it's just bad food. I've been wanting to try Ike's for years after hearing so many good things about it, but I was very disappointed by what I got. There was so little meat in the sandwich, and it didn't seem like very high quality meat either. It was mostly bread (and not so good bread), shredded lettuce, and a huge load of their mayo based sauce which made me feel sick afterwards because of how much of the sauce they used. The main reason that you feel full afterwards is because of all of the super calorie laden sauce they use. All of this, and it cost just under $16 after taxes. There are many other places to spend that kind of money for lunch that gives you much better food. I don't believe in wasting food and rarely throw anything away unless it's just inedible, and this sandwich made me feel so queasy afterwards from all of the oil in the heavy mayo sauce that I tossed the quarter of the sandwich that I had left away. Not sure if all of this is because they started franchising a few years ago, but the other weird thing about Ike's is that you can't find a complete menu of all of their sandwiches online or at the store. About the message from Ike's "Business Manager" below, I've already provided all the "deets". If Ike's really cared about customer feedback and concerns, the "Business Manager" would just relay what customers say on Yelp to Ike's corporate for review instead of forcing people to do an additional step of reporting it to some random Ike's link. Unless Jessica's job is just to make it look like Ike's cares and is "responsive" on Yelp.

In the pre-pandemic era, Ike’s sandwiches were renowned for their generous portions, often providing enough for two meals. However, my recent experiences have left me feeling like I've received nothing more than a snack.Even opting for the gluten-free option, which one would expect to be of comparable size to other sandwiches, yielded a portion that was shockingly small. Comparing them to sandwiches from Safeway only exacerbates the disappointment.Furthermore, not only have the portions shrunk, but the quality has also noticeably declined. The ingredients no longer seem as fresh or flavorful as they once were. The sandwich I received today lacked the taste and satisfaction I've come to expect from Ike's.While I initially noticed a reduction in size six months ago, the sandwiches I received today were even smaller than before. With prices exceeding $15, the value proposition has significantly diminished.Ike's, once known for its hearty sandwiches and reasonable prices, now leaves much to be desired. Unless portion sizes are restored to their former glory and the quality of ingredients improved, I can no longer justify the expense for what feels like an inadequate and lackluster meal.

This now "corporate" chain is a far cry from it's humble beginnings. The portions have been significantly reduced, and I expect more for a $15 sando. I can hit other places for less $ and a better offering.There are two things/"policies" that don't sit well with me: 1) they have no paper menus to take away. I'm sure the are being environmentally conscientious (they COULD use recycled paper) or they mistakenly assume that EC's older population is tech savvy enough to deal. I see this as a missed opportunity for them, unless they don't feel that is a demographic worth catering to.2) I paid cash, and did not have any $1 bills to use for the tipping bucket. I asked to change a $5,and was flatly told "we don't give change". Shocked, I begrudgingly dropped a $5 in the bucket.These may seem like trivial things, but to me seem like a lack of customer focus.That being said, the staff were polite.They probably deserve more than a 3, but I'm OK giving this score. I am in no rush to go back.

I was thrilled when I found out that a new Ike's had opened near me, and I couldn't wait to give it a try. As soon as I walked in, I witnessed the front staff handling a difficult situation with grace and respect, which showed me that Ike's values their customers and believes in kindness. Now, let's talk about the sandwiches because that's why you're here. Ike's offers a wide variety of meats including halal chicken, steak, turkey, tuna, and pastrami. They also have a great selection of toppings and bread choices to customize your sandwich. What I love the most is that they already have a menu with different types of sandwiches to choose from. I decided to go with the Pesto Chicken, and it was absolutely delicious. The meat and toppings were fresh, and the portion size was generous enough to easily feed two people. In addition to the sandwiches, they also offer a variety of soft drinks, chips, and cookies. And here's a fun bonus - they even give you a lollipop with your meal, and they had the classic caramel one that made my day. I'm already looking forward to going back and trying more of their menu. Just keep in mind that the restaurant has limited seating and is located in the El Cerrito shopping center, so parking and traffic can be a challenge on busy days. However, I visited on a late Thursday night and had no trouble finding parking.

Came into the store and was immediately greeted and met with friendly faces. It's always nice seeing the coworkers making their sandwiches with some light chatters it shows that they really are a team. The sandwiches though calorie dense are really well put together that always manages to hit the spot.
