We stayed 4 nights in mid-May at Yosemite Cedar Lodge #YCL and were very pleased with its proximity to Yosemite. We were typically in the valley within 30 minutes. The location is definitely a 5/5 stars. For an old-style hotel, the rooms were spacious and had the refrigerator and microwave typical of chain hotels. The service was excellent. For example, around 7 pm of our first night, we asked at the office for more facecloths and a second luggage rack, and someone brought them to our room before we even walked back to it. It was very convenient to have a diner/bar so close, and we ate some good sandwiches there twice and had some really excellent drinks - especially the blackberry margarita! We also bought several things in the gift shop and grocery store. One morning I walked over to the office to get a cup of tea and the sun was up and I was on Eastern Standard Time and didn't realize it was 5:30. I knocked on the office door and then I noticed there was a sign that said they open at 7, but someone came and opened the door and I was able to get some tea, which was very nice of them. There is a lovely picnic area/gazebo across the street from the hotel also. The only negative thing I can say about the room is that there was an old leather chair in our room that had seen better days, and the beds were pretty soft. The wi-fi was intermittent, as was the TV, but I think those problems are not unexpected given the location of the hotel. Otherwise, the walls had beautiful pictures and a large wood hanging laser inscribed with a map of Yosemite. We enjoyed our stay and felt comfortable.
Super clean and comfy rooms! Less than 10 minutes to the Yosemite Arch Rock Entrance.
First, the positive: at least the flooring in our room had been replaced, and some furniture was updated, so the first impression was decent. Unfortunately, both the kitchen and bathroom are at least 30 years old. The fixtures in the sink, bathtub, and washbasin are barely functional and spray water in all directions. The kitchen is outdated, and the equipment is heavily worn.
At first glance, the room appeared clean, but there were dead spiders and dirt in the corners. The bathroom condition speaks for itself (see photos).
Overall, you're paying a high price for the location but receiving a low standard in return. Most of the food in the small supermarket is close to its expiration date, and the food at the bar is far too expensive for the quality offered. The on-site restaurant is closed, and the nearest laundromat is 7 miles away.
Bad Motel!,torn sheets, less tv channels +remote control doesnt functioned,no breakfest at dinig room, just boxes to the room after waiting in line and expensive too and for what ?
We stayed in #615 which was one of the remodeled rooms. They did a great job on the remodel. The bed was super comfy.
The TV was a bit wonky at times. It would change channels, bring up the menu, increase the volume, etc. I thought it was the remote so I took the battery out. That didn't seem to make a difference. I meant to tell the front desk, but we weren't in the room much so it didn't seem to matter enough to us.
The internet was excruciatingly slow, and I still haven't learned to live without it, even on vacation so...YMMV.
We ate at their on-site restaurant. It was decent. Much better than just about anything in Yosemite Valley.
There was also a small park across the street on the river that was provided for guests.
Our trip was solely to visit Yosemite so this was a spectacular place to stay for easy access to the park. We would stay here again if we head that way.

This place is lovely. We just left Yosemite valley and I wish we would have stayed here the entire time. Way cleaner and cheaper. Super Clean! Kitchenette and very kind staff. Our son loved the pool also! We even checked in early. Cute town mariposa with larger grocery store. If I had to recommend a place to stay close to Yosemite valley, THIS IS IT!
We thoroughly enjoyed our experience at Cedar Lodge. The room was clean, staff were very friendly, and the location was great.
We selected this hotel because of the location and restaurant next to it. I did not have high hopes for a two star hotel with up-and-down reviews. I am delighted to say that this place was amazing. The rooms were better than a lot of the Marriott we stay at. They had just about everything you could want including a game room and a river front walk “hidden beach” across the road. There were only two items that some travelers may take issue with, they were not issues for us. (1) the restaurant was not open, the tavern was. Which is fine as long as you don’t mind Tavern food. (2) the Wi-Fi in our room was almost nonexistent. If we needed to send something for work, we simply went to the lobby lounge where the Wi-Fi worked perfectly well. We think this was a gem of a find and will certainly make it our base operation whenever we visit this park.
For two couples traveling together, we had two room with two Queen beds each, and stayed a couple of nights to visit Yosemite National Parks and Mariposa Grove. The Location was convenient to visit Yosemite multiple times during our stay. Staff was helpful assisting us. Being there at the end of April, the hotel stay was quiet, and enjoyed the hot tub and warm indoor swimming pool.
We had low expectations after reading the other reviews but overall, we had a great stay. Their main attractiveness is being only 20-30 min away from Yosemite Valley. Which is amazing.
Wifi: worked most of the time!
Room: we stayed in one of the remodeled rooms and it was clean, beds were comfortable. The fireplace didn’t work, might have been the batteries, who knows.
Kitchen: we asked before coming if it was fully stocked and they said yes. Well, it wasn’t. It had a few pots and pans, a few plates (one dinner plate for a 4 person room, and when asked for more they were almost shocked), one almost done paper towel roll, just one cutting knife and a few utensils. Definitely not fully stocked so be prepared.
Pack n play: maybe I needed to call or pay for it before coming? But they didn’t have anything available. Weird being such a big place.
Overall, we would come back
The photos on Booking.com do the place no justice. I've attached photos that give an accurate view of my room (Standard King Room).
I had a very comfortable bed in a room with a serene environment. Everything was working -- power outlets, USB charging ports, clean shower with efficient hot water flow, electronic door lock, free coffee, efficient room heating etc. (Small thing, but I do wish there were more orange lights in my room)
The entire compound had such a lovely, rustic, tranquil atmosphere. I spent the morning just listening to birds chirping and had a meditative experience. I did not get to use the pool but I believe it is heated in winter and had a glimpse of it -- looked simple and nice. They also have a games room I didn't get to visit.
Check-in was easy - Chris attended to me and was patient, friendly and warm. Check-out was also breezy, receptionist (unfortunately I didnt get her name) was warm and helpful too.
The recent rockslide also led to me having to seek support from yosemiteresorts.com. Jessie attended to me and was also very helpful and efficient, giving me the assurance I needed.
2 downsides - price is very high for a solo traveler (270usd, booked about a month in advance). the time I booked, other places were booked out so I just took this one. If you are not in a rush, there are properties that avail at much lower prices for stays within the next few days.
That said, after actually visiting Yosemite, I realised Curry Village and Yosemite *Valley* Lodge were quite crowded, lots of cars and footfall. I then came into deeper appreciation of the peaceful atmosphere at Cedar.
The other thing is, further down the road, I believe also property owned by yosemiteresorts.com, is a hotel called Yosemite *View* Lodge. Some rooms there are next to the beautiful Merced River, and like Cedar Lodge, it is also a stop along the YARTS bus route (the public transport that you can take to enter/exit Yosemite National Park). It is for about the same price per night, with free cancellation, which Cedar Lodge regrettably did not have on Booking.com. The view from Cedar Lodge is good enough, lots of beautiful trees. but if your room is on the hillside like mine, you don't get to see it and have to leave your room for it, or cross the short road to the river, rather than just be next to it, in your comfy bed..
Of course, you could just book the Ahwahnee Hotel if you have the cash for it. It was absolutely beautiful and was also the inspiration for some scenes in The Shining. If you're not staying there, I recommend you visit it anyway. So lovely.
*note, if you look into the history of Cedar Lodge, you might be worried about the incident that happened more than 2 decades ago. If you are, acknowledge your worry and sit with it... then, when you are ready, trust my words that the compound was very safe and lovely. I feel it would be a waste if you skipped on it just because of what happened years ago, which is actually a result of pain and trauma, rather than anything sinister.
#YCL. This hotel is great to stay at. Not too far from yosemite and lovely scenery. It is very clean and the room was in very good shape. The room was quite large and there is plenty of parking. Upstairs and downstairs rooms. Nice restaurants on site as well. The prices aren't too bad. I have been staying here on and off for 20 years and have never had a bad stay. All the staff are very nice and helpful.
One of our favorite places! We’ve stayed here numerous times over many years and will always come back! Great location, great rooms, and overall pleasant experience every single time!
Very close to the NP and the amenities they offer you are great (especially the multiple pools)
Grateful we got a room not too far from the park but the hotel is just ok. Pillows look dirty and were not comfortable. And the weird smell. Restaurant is a pass. Food was way too expensive for being not good
