Another place I use to go to Mel Dog's Cafe 9766 Waterman Rd, Ste B, Elk Grove, CA 95624. It has been years so today I decided to check it out. This restaurant is in an industrial complex so a bit hard to find. I walked into a pretty full restaurant being served by one server. It was about 8:15 AM and I thought this was going to be slow service. Not at all! I was seated, drinks delivered and order taken pretty quick. The server seemed to know everyone. She was obviously very experienced so I went with her suggestion of a California Omelette. At 9:00 AM other servers showed and started helping her. This omelette was made military style, very thin egg wrap with fresh ingredients. Another thing I liked was the large mug for my tea, which was refilled as needed with hot water. The potatoes, pancakes and everything else was spectacular. The Chef in the back obviously took great care in its preparation. The home made salsa was incredible. The ambience is a very clean, well laid out restaurant. They have nice tables and chairs that were properly spaced. The only negative thing I have to add are the huge portions they give. A great place for breakfast or lunch that I HIGHLY RECOMMEND!

There is a thin blue line flag prominently displayed.The service was hit or miss, some of the staff seemed annoyed with your presence, some were extremely kind and helpful. We were sat quickly and food came out at a reasonable time, but we also arrived very early in the morning. As we were leaving we saw people waiting quite a long time to be seated.The food was nothing special, a decent breakfast but not unlike something you could whip up at home. It was decently priced, but the portions reflect what you pay.Overall, I think there are better spots to visit that will beat out this place in every way.

Food was ok. Protiins size is smaller than most diners. The cup size is great but the straws are not big enough! On an early Saturday morning there's a giant sign stating that we should wait to be seated and a very small sign (blocked by the larger sign) asking us to "sign in" on a folded in half piece of computer paper. The hostess told us we needed to sign in then showed us to our table. The wait for food is longer than normal and it was only ok. My girlfriend had finished her drink before we got our meal and when our waitress brought our food she didn't ask if she needed a refill or even so much as notice she needed one. A different waitress had to get her a refill. All that being said their gravey is very very good. We will not be back.

Love this place. It has heart, soul, and really tasty good food. The staff are attentive, kind and swift in getting your meal delivered hot. The decor is fun, adding to the homey vibes. This place is a solid place for breakfast and lunch and I'll keep coming back.

Been to Mel Dogs a few times now and it has become my favorite spot for breakfast in Elk Grove. Great food, good portions, fair prices and friendly staff. The place also has a great old school diner feel. The Devore is cool and if you look up when you're seated you can see all the cool business card ceiling tiles.
Decided to spend the night in Elk Grove so I could get a good look at her, walk around and see what's what.The people sure are friendly, just like in towns a lot smaller. My ol pal told me what ever I do make sure I eat lunch at Mel Dog's Cafe! Because...Well, just because! So I did.I was totally impressed with everything. I got my hotdogs wrapped in bacon...it was Amazing! ☆☆☆☆☆

From the service to the food. I found it so friendly and delicious. I loved their coffee that you can drink just black without any sugar or cream. The California Scramble was delicious as well. Will be back for sure.
