Ramen was unique but very pleasant. Also got the hamburger steak. It was rather difficult to cut into because the meat wasn't as grounded as I think it should've been. It tasted fine although I think the value isn't that great.

had a weird smell walking in.. should’ve took that as a bad sign but we gave it a chance anyway. the food was ok and overpriced for how just ok it was. we got the Threesome roll, which mainly tasted like rice and sauce. the crispy salmon bites were decent. we wouldn’t visit again sorry

Oh my! This place is fantastic! We had two types of Ramen, one with poer belly and the other with beef, and both were wonderful. Spicy enough to give us a kick, but not too spicy to make it uncomfortable. Perfect flavoring. My wife described it as magic in a bowl... we look forward to dining here again.

I got the bento box. The sashimi and teriyaki salmon were great. The sashimi was very fresh. Did not disappoint. I recommend the radish it comes on to be fresher. The teriyaki salmon was excellent. I’ve had better salmon, but this one will not disappoint. Nice and crunchy outer layer and soft inside. Overall, I do recommend it based on this one experience. I’m not from the area so I cannot compare the day to day.

What does Washoku mean in English?
ChatGPT said:
Washoku (和食) in English literally means “Japanese food” or “Japanese cuisine.”
Wa (和) = Japanese, harmony, or Japan.
Shoku (食) = food or to eat.
So together, Washoku = traditional Japanese food.
It usually refers not just to the dishes themselves, but also to the culinary culture, balance, and presentation that are part of Japanese dining. In fact, UNESCO recognized Washoku as an Intangible Cultural Heritage in 2013 because of its cultural importance and its emphasis on seasonality, harmony, and respect for nature.
Would you like me to also explain how Washoku differs from other Japanese food terms like Nihon ryōri (日本料理)?

I had such a great experience at Washoku in Elk Grove! From the moment I walked in, the staff made me feel welcome with their warm and attentive service. The food was absolutely delicious and beautifully presented—fresh, flavorful, and authentically Japanese. I especially loved the balance of flavors and the care that went into every dish.
The atmosphere is cozy yet modern, making it a perfect spot for both casual dining and special occasions. Everything from the sushi to the hot dishes was prepared with such attention to detail. You can really tell they take pride in serving quality food.
If you’re looking for authentic Japanese cuisine in Elk Grove, Washoku is definitely a must-visit. I’ll be coming back again soon!

The only reason im not giving the food 5 stars is that the menu is very confusing for a first timer. But the ramen is excellent.

The curry and Tonkotsu ramen here do not taste like any Japanese food I’ve had. It’s as if someone who’s never had Japanese food tried to make Japanese food. The curry was bewilderingly sweet and had no spice. Tonkotsu broth had no depth to it and the flavor was obscured. The service was great but unfortunately I’m looking for a restaurant in Elk Grove that reminds me of home… I will not be coming back.

I am guessing don't let the suburban strip mall look fool you too much?
The menu looks and seems all-encompassing for a Japanese-inspired restaurant. With Ramen, Curries, Katsu, and Izakaya the variety is inspiring.
Their flavors and offerings are good. The Ramen broth is decently rich, Curries are a touch sweet for my taste with not enough heat, but their Katsu is crispy and well seasoned.
There is a Lunch Special daily and it is portioned with economy in mind.

Ok seriously! Amazing miso, ramen, rolls, and salad for us adults and a great hamburger for my 4 year old (hambagu). We all wanted to eat more but couldn’t fit it! Every plate was made beautifully and I feel like this place is either underrated or needs more attention because the whole restaurant was empty! Such ?a great ? experience ? ?
Parking: Totally off the radar. Definitely recommend
Kid-friendliness: My 4 year old ate the edamame and hambagu. Didn’t have kid cups but he managed the water with a straw just fine.

Good food bogged down by pricing. Menu can be simplified, which would lower overall food cost and fire times.
Their signature Washoku ramen is very well balanced and delicious, but lacks the allure of simple food done right.

Washoku has the tastiest Japanese food around. So much fantastic food. Have been there many times now and from super tasty and deep flavored ramen (must try the Hokkaido version) to the best Japanese style curry, tasty skewers, sushi - and my favorite: Ironyaki Hambagu - amazing. Pork belly skewers are the best you'll have. Everything has so much flavor - umami everything. Tough location so PLEASE TRY THIS PLACE. WE NEED THEM TO SUCCEED!
