Ordered a lot of gluten free cup cakes that were for a birthday. GF were great before and this time got a way over done practically burned dried out corn muffin of some sort. Contacted them and no response at all, which is why I am writing the review. They did not even care much less make it right.

Kara's cupcakes are the best in the SF bay area. Check the hours for this store, however, as they seem to change all the time.

Have visited many times prior to COVID-19 and the cupcakes were excellent. There are news hours posted in the door.

The cupcakes are dry and hard. So disappointing for the price and Kara's used to be good. Don't know what happened.

2.5 stars (edited, decided to round up) Kara's, what happened?! You were one of my top 5 favorite cupcake shops in the mid 2000s when I first had your goodness. I even liked you in the late 2000s when I was living in the bay and later moved away. My most recent visit was this past Saturday and was pretty disappointed. I arrived in the late afternoon/early evening. There was a small line that went out the door. A chocolate velvet and a carrot cupcake went home with me. The chocolate velvet was pretty tasty and not dry, but the carrot was overly sweet that I had to wash it down with milk. A shocking aspect compared to a decade ago was how TINY these cupcakes are these days. I'd say these are more the size of a mini cupcake. With a sticker shock of $3.85 a pop, I expected a little more. Also note that there were no prices listed any where. It wasn't until I got to the register to pay that I understood how much each costed. On the bright side, staff members are nice and attentive. No list of flavors available except for what's on display. For nostalgia's sake, I'll probably give you another chance. #19/2021

The Tuxedo cupcake was the best cupcake, hands down that I have ever had. My son in law had the vegan cupcake and gave it 5 stars too!

Cupcakes were probably a 3/5, but the service was amazing. The two women working were so friendly and helpful. We got a carrot cupcake and the sweet vanilla one. The carrot one was a little dry, but the frosting on both was sweet and delicious.

I was surprised to see the shop open and welcoming so I decided to pop in. I didn't know there was a location so close to me. I got the flavor of the month, which was an Oreo one and also ended up trying the carrot cake cupcake. Everything was super greasy/oily, but at least the flavors were prominent. I think my friend's homemade ones tasted better. Cupcakes were packed in a cute box, but too pricey for the quality.

I liked both the cupcakes and the service ?

BLUF: Not a closed location! Decent cupcakes, but lacking the moisture of other cupcakes I have tried. A bit dry. Food: C+ The cupcakes seemed a bit on the dry side. The fluff and top creams were solid, but each bite had a bit more crumble to it rather than sticking together for each bite. The flavors were pretty good, but left me wanting something...more. Price: C+ For the size of the cupcakes, the price seemed pretty average, coming in at $3.85/cupcake. The store didn't seem to offer any discounts or deals or memberships. Parking: A There is a parking garage with free first 30 minutes right in front of the store. So no issues at all. Service: A The staff was great and recommended the special cupcakes as well ingredients in each if we needed to know for allergies or any other questions. Overall: C+ The cupcakes were pretty good, but not the best I have had and honestly, I think I was a bit spoiled from my experiences at Cupcakin.

Stopped in and got 4 chocolate cupcakes. Two had a wonderful chocolate mousse frosting, the others a very rich chocolate fudge, which was good but wish they had not put salt on top. When they were in Burlingame they made me some without the salt. This location was unable to do so. Hopefully a special order a few days in advance might work l. I have yet to understand putting salt on chocolate. Very bad idea. Anyway the cupcakes were very fresh and delicious. Cant understand the negative reviews. I will be back when in that area again although not a fan of that multi storied mall with all the construction and the high prices charged for. movies by AMC. Disappointing that I would have to pay for parking just to buy cupcakes. Maybe I will search out their San Francisco orPalo Alto locations, since I live on the Peninsula .
