Service was not good - The food and wine were good - but problems with service spoiled the experience… Embarrassing as I had brought a friend for their first time …

Been coming here for years. As a local born and raised in Encinitas, there is no better restaurant for drinks and great food that has withstood the times. As for the service from the staff it has always been exceptional. Most recently Saul has always taken care of me with recommendations on drinks and food. They have just recently changed their menu so definitely something to check out.
I just love this place. It’s warm and cozy and everybody treats me like family. I love the wine selections that are very affordable. The food is amazing, you gotta try the scallops. I go at least two or three times a month. I think I’ve tried everything on the menu, All good!!! I would love to see a little variation on the menu, but I’d hate to lose my favorites. Wednesday specials are the best. If you’ve never been make it a point to do so you won’t regret it.
Overall, the food was good. It was the service that was questionable. I inquired about your six pack of wine as well as your women’s month wine tasting. I settled on the 3rd St., Cabernet Sauvignon and it was quite good however, I heard the bartender talking to the couple behind me and offering them the option to be part of a wine club telling them how it’s free to sign up they would get 15% blah blah blah. When I asked for my bill she didn’t share any of that information with me. Matter of fact I questioned her about it. I inquired why would you share that with them but not sure that with me when I had inquired about so many of your wines and she said to me well I thought your friend would share it with you. It was almost like really how dare you expect someone who doesn’t work here to take responsibility for your job that’s your responsibility to offer guest that option. Secondly, she had the nerve to ask me if I was offended. Well of course I was because I had inquired about several wines, so I felt for sure she’s going to offer me information about the club. I’m gonna sign up and I’m gonna buy a bottle of this wine that I’ve already had a few glasses of…. Long story short she did not I was offended. She was aware ……I left never to return nor would I recommend this place not sure why it was or what it was, but I think you should train your staff to sell your products. You have excellent food and good wine. I’m not sure why she doesn’t offer everyone equally the same opportunity and why of all things pray too would you say to I guess I thought your friend would tell you about it.. I don’t wanna go into any further details. I just would say that was rude. Disrespectful and unfortunate for your establishment.
Excellent servers and fabulous menu. And if you want wine, the entire world will surround you.
Stopped by for an early dinner on Valentine’s day, so they were only doing a set menu. Similar to another recent review, getting any initial service to order drinks was a long wait, which was hard to understand since we were in early and only a couple of other folks were in at the time. Sadly the food didn’t seem to match the price, as the halibut was dry and over cooked and everything seemed to be missing some seasoning and taste. The wine options were probably the best part of going here
I would say that the only really good thing from here was the clam chowder soup.
The braised short rib had a bland taste. The chicken plate wasn't too bad. The prices for the entrees are pretty high for what it's worth. The service was really slow. We got our drinks after our appetizers.

Great place ! Been there dozens of times for dinner or happy hour or wine flights. Solid wine lineup -- huge range by the glass plus a substantial wine shop with great variety and fair value prices and often have great specials. Has got to be either the best, or close to it, of wine bar/restaurant combo in all of San Diego County ! see photo for one of the 'Top 100 Wine Flights' from January '25
We had the most FANTASTIC server while dining here! Guy created a unique and memorable experience for us as we were celebrating together. As a new resident of Encinitas this is a local gem that I will bring family and friends to who come visit Southern California ☀️
No corkage fees for wine bought there.
