We live in the neighborhood and two different neighbors of ours warned us that the food was hit and miss but the ambiance was great. We chose to take our mom there on Valentine's Day brunch for the sake of being able to make a reservation and for the ocean view. We figured how could they mess up an omelette? To my disappointment, my omelette was filled with soggy red peppers and was in an omelette that was so thin that it was obviously made with hardly any eggs. it had tiny little crumbs of feta cheese on top. The toast was not toasted at all and when I complained they said that the restaurant does not have a toaster so they grill their toast. As a result, it tastes smoked and you might as well just have it as a side of bread. They had no way of making it crispy. My husband ordered the scrambled eggs and chicken sausage. He was not impressed either. My mom did enjoy her eggs benedict however, which was most important. I do feel bad for the servers because the poor quality of food could have a reflection on their tips which should not be the case. The management did not seem to care much when I shared our feedback with them. Unfortunately, this restaurant is right down the street from us and we will not be going there again.
We had a beautiful birthday dinner here last night! What a gem right in our area. The food and drinks were outstanding, but the service and staff were even better. We had trouble choosing between the dishes offered, and I LOVE that the menu is seasonal. So good to have an alternative to PCG on the water and with a menu that gets refreshed! Can't wait to return.
An absolute stunning resort. VAGA sits a top the resort with breathtaking ocean views. Outdoor patio for dining with bar area...is the perfect spot to catch San Diego's beautiful sunsets. Our server was attentive and kept making sure that our drinks were flowing and food was to our liking. The dishes we ordered were all very delicious and drinks were good! Highly recommend for date night or GNO.... Bonus, their staff happily snaps photos to capture your moments! Loved it.
We had our reservation at 7:30pm but they didnt have our table ready until 7:50 and we waited at least 15min to get our water. The food is great though.
It was a delicious meal, but did not stand out in any particular. Duck carnitas app was the highlight. Roasted beet salad, carrots were pleasant. Presentation on the carrots was very good. Crispy trout and halibut were both very good, but didn't rise above any expectation. Corn campanelle was adequate, and uninspiring. Peri-peri sauce on a quarter roasted chicken was enjoyed, but seemed like a variation when compared with prior experience at another restaurant led by the same chef. The soundscape was not so much loud as chaotic. Rock and ska music in the background was pleasant enough, but hard to discern in the general din. Servers were hard to hear, as was table talk.
There were two outstanding items: the salmon tostada and the chocolate mousse bomb. Everything else was rather ordinary for the price. Service was helpful and friendly in the beginning but then disappeared for a long while . No one came by to refill water or iced tea. I would say: go to the outdoor bar area, order a drink and enjoy the view which is spectacular.
Amazing experience. Stayed at the Alila Marea for my anniversary and birthday. Made a reservation for the evening and it was beautiful. Food was great, the service even better. Overall beautiful restaurant with great ambiance. 100% would come again for the food, vibe, and service!
Very good restaurant. We love this place for the food and service primarily. View is incredible too, but the prices are a bit too high. Still would come back but they need to be a bit more fair with drink and entree pricing.
Great service/ambience but prices no longer justified. Under cooked carrots, extremely small fish portion for a $50 entree. Dessert stood out as lone value. Consider an appie and a drink at the bar. Not a full meal.
We had a lunch planed for a party of 4. I did not realize this was in a hotel. There is a $10 fee for valet parking. The view from the hotel is excellant. Great view of the ocean and the coast. Food was very good. We were there on a Thursday Jan 1st and they only had a brunch menu. Not much of a selection, just a one sheet menu. Service was very poor. They were understaffed and many people were upset with their delay of their food and even delays getting seated. It was not busy, many tables were open. I just think poor resturant management. The bar has a good view and a nice outdoor seating area. I will be back to drink at the bar.

I was actually a guest at the hotel and once you get the food it's pretty good, but the service is really spotty. I made a reservation and we were right on time but told there was a wait. The dining room was half empty so it just seemed very weird. And when we sat down, it took a while to get a coffee we ordered three times. I had also purchased breakfast as a guest and asked how that would work and never got a response so basically paid double. Blah.
NY Day brunch. Severly understaffed is my best guess. Everything took 15-20 min and nothing happened without flagging someone down Every customer was waiting ... It was stressful for servers, and awkward for customers. Food was not as described (were they out of ingredients?)
We waited 30 minutes to even place our drink order and had to ask if we could place it through someone who was not even our server. We went for New Year's Eve and there were probably 5 tables with people and we paid over $500 for two people for very sub-par food and service. Our waitress was very nice but for what we paid, it did not make sense. I never like leaving bad reviews but the value was not there and unfortunately we have tried to give the Alila Marea a shot a couple times and what you actually get does not match the price point they put things at.
I usually don't write bad reviews but I don't understand how this restaurant has 4.5 star reviews - the good is mediocre. Pasta I had was advertised as a specialty, it was just like a Kraft food dinner. Beet salad and steak were just fine . Atmosphere was awful - almost empty, no music so you could here discussion at the next table ... definitely won't go back
When you make the reservations on OpenTable, there is no message to indicate that it is a price fix that menu on Christmas. We did not know until we showed up to the restaurant. They even called the day before to get a credit card deposit, which should have been clarified when the reservation was made. Food was mediocre for the price that you pay. Service was slow.
