Excellent wines, family-owned business, beautiful, intimate patio with a great view. Live music! Exceptional way to spend an afternoon! Doesn't feel commercialized like some of the larger vineyards in the area. Highly recommend!!
Lots of wine flight and by the glass choices. We had a great time tasting a variety of wines and really enjoyed everything we tried. We loved the Estate Cuvee white and the Chardonnay so much that we took a bottle of each home. A nice outdoor seating with fans and misters to keep you cool on a hot day.
My first time here, I found it while researching online. Surprisingly great wines, with lots of awards. My favorite was the Recon (I prefer full bodied red wines) and this one was a home run.
Nice atmosphere but the view is kind of blocked from the patio. The tasting room feels a bit cold as well.
The best winery in Escondido! Sit on the patio, sip wine and enjoy the sun and songs.
Ed , the owner, tour of his vineyard was amazing! His knowledge about everything from the grapes, wine making process, and history was insightful. The tour itself felt intimate, unlike those in Napa. Other than that Ed, the staff was amazing and brought us wine throughout our tour.
And the wines? Amazing! loved the Estate ABDX and the Syrah Noir - highly recommend trying them both!
Good wine selection and very tasty. They charge for tastings and don't give a break if you buy wine. Hard to feel good about that. If a winery wants you to come back and spend money, they should make you feel appreciated. Still a nice place, just mixed feelings.
Beautiful vineyard and great wine!
We very much enjoyed our wine tasting today and it was a great first visit for my friends.
However, we were "less than enchanted" by the entertainment today. We felt the karaoke style television theme contest was beneath the class of Hungry Hawk. I have been twice before and the music was talented and pleasant. We came to enjoy the wine and atmosphere, not answer 20 questions!
I will be back, but will make sure of the planned music in advance!
They have outdoor seating, which is a nice area. their time when they are open is limited, and a small time frame.

We loved it here, there was a personal touch of service, the music was lovely, the views were great. We had port and liked it.
Great wine & wonderful staff
Great place great service. We were greeted with a welcome wine tasting. Will return!
Beautiful Winery in the Hills of Escondido, very peaceful experience sitting out on the Terrace, comfortable chairs and tables, even blankets provided which was much appreciated with the cool breeze. We tasted two different flights of Reds and whites, all we're very good. Being more of a white wine drinker myself, I found the Spanish Albarino to be one of the best white wines I've ever tasted, and we brought a bottle home with us and felt the same way when we had it again the next night. We'll definitely be back!
We’re from out of state but we’ve made it a point to come to Hungry Hawk on both of our recent trips to San Diego. Great wine, beautiful patio, and incredibly friendly staff. We enjoyed our tastings from Jeff today and we couldn’t get enough of the Recon Red, the Cabernet Franc and Sauvs, and the Carménère. Oh and the Sauvignon Blanc! Truly delightful. Thanks, Hungry Hawk!
