Sadly, I think this restaurant has been closed for a few months now. I noticed there is a lease available sign on the side of the building facing Grand Avenue.

Sadly, I think this restaurant is permanently closed.

Horrible food, almost broke a tooth when bit into my carnitas burrito and found an entire bone inside. All good was below mediocre and was extremely disappointed.

We were visiting from Phoenix and we decided to come here. It was the best decision we made. The food was so delicious. I ordered chile relleno and cheese enchilada. The flavors were mixed together so well and authentic. Come here if you are in Escondido! You will not be disappointed.

If you're looking to host a part between 5-50 people, look no further! La Tapatia has the old world charm combined with new updates that make it feel very welcoming. The staff is incredible and accommodating and will turn themselves inside out to make your event special in every way. They are also the best priced option out there and the food is absolutely delicious!!! This is a family owned business and the love and care shows the minute you walk in.

We came here for Sunday dinner before a show. It feels dated but in a cute vintage way. The tables around us were ordering beers and appetizers while watching a game on the tv's. It had a really good ambiance going. The waitress was very nice and kept circling back to fill our chips and drinks. I had the mole chicken enchilada and carnitas tacos. My date had carne asada fajitas. Both plates came with rice and beans. The portions were generous. The food was really fresh. This is definitely worth a date night, it's a staple in Escondido.

We haven't been here for years but decided to give it another try. The interior was just like before and felt nostalgic. It can use some renovation for sure but at the same time I want this place to stay just as it is. We were quickly seated in the bar booth. We ordered a chile relleno plate and a burrito plate. The price was reasonable and the food was reasonably good, no frill, no surprise, just good staple Mexican food. Missing avocado and sour cream... The service was amazing! The young tall waiter, David??, was a great server. Attentive, courteous and friendly. He made the dining there a much better experience. They have happy hour Wednesday to Sunday 2-5 pm. We may come back for HH on the weekend next time.

We had veggi fajitas. Very greasy. Oil used to cook them very old. My sister & I felt nauseated & ?sick afterwards. Need to make edible food. Not going there again.

Really overpriced now as compared to years past. We realize that inflation is affecting business costs but I'm convinced the owner of La Tapatia has taken advantage and increased pricing and profits over true cost increases... A couple of examples... A large margarita was $14 for a slightly bigger glass with not a lot more to drink. We were charged when we asked for extra tortillas for fajitas. My wife's fajitas were $20 for carne asada or shrimp, she asked to do a combo with 1/2 carnitas and 1/2 shrimp and was charged an extra $4, so $24 for fajitas. La Tapatia used to be pretty good and on our regular rotation. We'd drop by for dinner at minimum a couple of times a year, but after this last visit, we'll never go back.

Happy hour 2.50 carnitas taco was excellent and a meal by itself. Ceviche was killer. Highly recommend.

Service was friendly... This is not authentic Mexican food. Food was bland, chips were burnt, below average margaritas. Really outdated restaurant. They charge for drink refills. Will not return.

Went here last minute, was seated promptly after a little wait. Not because there was a line, but because we were waiting for the hostess. This was our first time dining at this restaurant. The restaurant did have a good amount of people, which is always a good sign. The restaurant itself is very old school, but was clean, roomy and the booths were comfortable. The service was fantastic, it was actually a nice surprise. It almost felt like it was family run and it was pleasant. The margarita was great .. they definitely don't hold back on the alcohol. I also ordered a Paloma, but it just did not taste like what I am used to. I think that I'm more used to freshly squeezed grapefruit or juice but not grapefruit soda. Unfortunately, the food was incredibly bland. the Mexican rice tasted like it came straight out of a box. My date had the prime rib, which he thought was decent minus the rice. I had the shrimp burrito plate w rice and beans. Again, it was just pretty tasteless, even though I added salt and pepper. The fried ice cream was great and tasted as expected. I do want to try this place out again. Maybe it was just an off night. I also really enjoyed the service.

Thank you to La Tapatia for putting on a lovely reception for my father-in-law, Louis Martinez on Saturday, January 28th! He used to own the restaurant and we really wanted to come full circle and hold the reception there. It was tough for the owners to make that happen because like all other restaurants it has been hard to find workers. Not only did they make it happen but it was wonderful. We really appreciated all the personal touches in homage to the family that owned it for many years. Oh and by the way, the food was delicious!!

I ordered combination plate, two chilé relleno with beans and rice (great beans and rice). My date had a beef chimichanga. The food was wonderful and we each had enough left for another meal. Our waiter was Ben, a nice young man who provided us with great customer service. This family business has been there for 85 years! It was my first time there and I will definitely be going back. El Tapatio is my new favorite restaurant.
