“A home run, actually, a grand slam. What a great place in a cute town. The heirloom tomatoes and burrata were an amazing start to an incredible meal. My colleague followed it up by having a filet mignon with some complimentary vegetables. I had ribs with a slaw that was top notch. The meat fell off the bone. The service was awesome. Everyone needs to go here.“

“It was a Sunday night and I was craving Moules frites, which are so delicious at this restaurant, but they were out of them!! Oh no, anyway I had the steak frites , which were also delicious. I'll look forward to returning and , hopefully I'll get those mussels. Ali has such a lovely restaurant and outside dining area. It's a pleasure to go there!“

“Met a former colleague for a Friday lunch, and San MAteo was equidistance for us. Barrel Bistro was a pleasant surprise. Their wine offer is amazing, great wineries represented and at a range of price points. I've got celiac so gluten free food isa must. Our server was awesome, he let me know what was good, and what was really popular. I settled for either the Filet Mignon Flatbread with a Ginger Soy Glaze or the Margherita Flatbread. I ordered the Filet Mignon Flatbread and it did not disappoint! The filet was tender, and flavorful and the flatbread was flexible so you could simply fold up the slices to eat. Will definitely come back!“

“The ambience is one of the greatest reasons why we keep returning. We missed Cameron's great service this time, but the young lady who helped us was great. Food , as always, was top notch. Only slight negative was there were more than one beverage choices not available, but listed on the menu.“

“What a gem in downtown Burlingame. It is one of my favorite places to get excellent farm to table food. The ambience is lovely and elegant without being ostentatious. I really appreciate the iconic photos of old movie stars. As for the food, it was exceptional I had the papperdelle with wild mushrooms and hubby had the special risotto. The mushrooms and pasta were incredible. The mushrooms were perfection with such an incredible texture and flavor that paired perfectly with the pasta. The risotto was excellent with a proper “bite” on the rice. I had to steal a few bites from his plate because I can't resist a properly cooked risotto“
“Even though the "Open" LED sign was turned off, L&D Bistro is actually open. I was the only customer at noon and then it became 1/2 full at 12:30pm. The thing about restaurants with the word "bistro" in the name always puts a smile on my face. It reminds me of the old TV sitcom Three's Company where Jack Tripper owned Jack's Bistro. That show was hilarious. There's none of that wackiness here though. I had the fried shrimp & calamari $13 as my appetizer. That was good. They put a bed of tomato red sauce on the bottom with some capers. It would have been better if there were tarter sauce available. Chef's choice I guess. It was still good. For my entree, I took advantage of the lunch special $14.50, which comes with a beer or a soft drink. My grilled Angus top sirloin steak came out well done'ish, even though I ordered it medium. It is challenging, to say the least, to cook that thin piece of meat right. Regardless, still good. It took about 35 minutes for the entree to come out if you have a limited timed lunch break like I do. You pay at the cashier when you are done, which is more efficient. Service was excellent.“

“The location was interesting. It was not easy to get into all the time. Most of the time, we had to do a u-turn to get into the driveway. Convenience wise, the location was great. There was a Starbucks and food within walking distance. Costco was across the street. The room was clean, comfortable and very spacious. The only strange thing about the room was the placement of the television relative to the bed. Most hotels have the television at the foot of the bed. The television was placed on the side of the bed. The layout of the furniture lent itself to the spacious feel of the room, though. I love hotels where the sink is outside the bathroom. You can get ready for bed or going out while someone is either taking a shower or using the toilet. The only issue I had was the toilet paper holder. Because it was loose, the toilet paper kept on falling when we tried to put any pressure on the roll. The staff was polite and helpful. We were given a parking permit, but there is no parking fee. There was plenty of parking. We were able to park close to our room, which is unusual. I would definitely stay here agin.“
