Wife Life

If I can give no stars I so would. I went with my family to this place yesterday evening. Everything was fine until the food came out. I got a baked sushi and it wasn’t even warm like a baked sushi should be. It also looked nothing like the photo. Then I was told by an older Asian woman that the crab meat was imitation crab meat. I cut my sushi up in smaller pieces and took a few bites. I tried to like it but ended up telling the older lady I didn’t want it and would like to order something different. Here’s where it starts to get BAD. As I waited for my husband to go tell the lady we wanted a different sushi I tried a piece of chicken from one of my daughter’s plates and immediately I tasted old expired chicken! It was sour, definitely went bad. I even had my husband taste it and he noticed the meat tasted bad too. By then my daughters had ate most of it between the 3 of them. That’s not the worst part though. My husband had asked the older lady if we can get a new sushi and she said we will still be charged for the sushi we barely ate. She was not understanding and would not budge. She kept saying we will be charged. So I decided to cancel the sushi we just ordered. After my husband came back to the table we were just talking for a few minutes and I looked up and noticed the sushi maker staring at me. The older lady was talking to him in her language and he would not stop looking at me. He had his arms folded and had this very serious angry look on his face. Every time I would look up at him he was looking at me with this serious expression on his face. Mind you im a woman and I’m pregnant. So I had had enough and I just stared right back at him then waved and said out loud, “what, can I help you? You keep saying at me, what are you looking at?” I had had enough of this creep staring a hole into my head. I believe that older lady was talking about me and he got upset that I complained and canceled a order of sushi. That older lady was trying to make excuses for the sushi maker and didn’t even consider what I was telling her. I tried telling her and she just shook her head and said he wouldn’t do that. She just blew me off and kept shaking her head. She was defending his bad behavior. That sushi makes most definitely was giving me dirty looks. My husband immediately went up to pay so we can leave. My husband would have told that guy something but I just was so shocked he was looking at me like that, that I had to say something as soon as I realized what he was doing. After that a different waitress told my husband sorry and that if she was serving us she would have have switched the sushi for us no double charge. She was the only nice sensible person at that place. Definitely never going back, worst sushi place I have ever been to. Bad food, bad service and bad some mannered people.

Solid place to find rolls. The service is excellent, and it's right next to a cool joint. You can have a beer and some rolls.

Great owners and yummy food. They make adjustments when necessary. My husband and I are regulars.

My fav is the teriyaki chicken dinner. Sushi is average at best. Ambience is fair. Good service though.

Experience was amazing, loving customer service. I would recommend the dumplings because it has a good combination with the soy sauce and it has a crunch from the bottom being fried up. So so good! The miso soup has a home welcoming taste, it makes you feel welcomed and at home, I personally love that feeling. Would definitely go again. The calamari rings were crunchy and fresh. If you want to try something new this is your place to go!

The staff here is always so welcoming and happy. I could die for their baked lobster roll, edamame, and beef fried rice. It’s Japanese style creates a very pretty atmosphere. I’ve lived here for 5 years and Asuka has been my constant favorite Japanese

The food is fresh and light. The tempura isn't greasy at all, which is a rare find. It's a delight to find something like that when I'm used to having flavorful food all the time in New Orleans. It really reminded me about Japanese food in Japan.

horrible service , and food. the server was boring and needs to be retrained. Called himself flirting with my under age sister like a weirdo. Avoid this place and just go Japanese Steak House ! wayy better food and service for sure.

I really wanted to love this place but as far as sushi places go...it's not the best but not the worst. Service was fine, the lady did mess up a few things(ordered us an extra appetizer, forgot someone's sushi roll) but since we were a party of 8 we just rolled with it. Tuna sashimi was great. Not the best quality in California but for Fresno it was very good. My roll was not what I had hoped, although they do a very light tempura batter compared to other places that have a thick batter that makes it difficult to eat.Everyone seemed pretty happy with the portions/prices. I do love fried cream cheese anything but I would reserve that for another restaurant, this one would be nice for a quick bite of sashimi, tuna or salmon specifically. Love the family owned atmosphere and regulars who are happy and well received is always a great sign!

I was craving sushi, but my usual spots are on the other side of town so I found this spot and wanted to give it a try. They're a smaller establishment with cool decor. There was another party when we were, but it seems like they get a lot of call-in orders. Their sushi seems to not have a lot ingredients. Very simple. I ordered the red and red roll, which is suppose to contain spicy tuna, avocado, green onion, and masago. It had a chili emoji next to the name that it was spicy, but it was far from that. It was so bland. Had no flavor. It didn't have any of those ingredients that it said it did. We also ordered spicy garlic edamames and dumplings. Those two items were okay. The service wasn't bad. Our servers were kind.

I'm always reluctant to leave a bad review but the sushi here is not good. The sushi rice was too hard and the fish isn't as fresh, simply put. Cut roll size was enormous but bigger isn't better in the case of sushi. You need a balance between the fish and sushi rice. The rice was about 80% of the piece. This was a Togo order so I was using the soy sauce packets and it had absolutely no flavor. Same goes for the wasabi. This may have added to the overall distaste for my meal. I had prepackaged sushi better than this. I had a feeling I should have got the teriyaki chicken instead as their sushi menu was limited and didn't seem like they specialized in it. Will give it another shot, but do not eat sushi at this place!

Was surprised to have the $15 menu price suddenly change to $18 when I got my bill and was told, oh sorry, we haven't changed the menus out yet... well how do you expect me to pay when that's not the price listed. Food was barely warm and lacked any flavor. The overall meal was a very small portion, esp for the price hike. Themeat very fatty and flavorless and "salad" plain iceberg lettuce with a side of sour "dressing". We Def will NOT be back- biggest waste of $65 for 3 meals-

Asuka is a quaint, dimly lit space that was about half full when we arrived on a Weds night. They have booth as well as table seating. The service was friendly and prompt. I notice there seem to be at least a couple of parties in there that were regulars as the owner was making friendly small talk with them. We did enjoy the quiet atmosphere and the service. However, we really did not care for the sushi. I got a yellowtail handroll. It was packed with way too much rice and the fish lacked the freshness that I would have hoped for. I also ordered the Honda roll, which was ok. Again, lots of rice and not the freshness I desire. I did enjoy the flavor of the sauce they put on it. My sister had a crunch roll and was not impressed. She only ate a couple of pieces. Again, there was nothing horrible about the rolls. But the overall quality was not what we prefer.
