The Library Speakeasy is a hidden gem, reminiscent of the clandestine bars of the Prohibition era. Tucked away behind a discreet facade, it offers an ambiance of mystery and sophistication. The cocktails are expertly crafted, with a menu that pays homage to classic libations while also featuring innovative creations. The cozy yet refined atmosphere makes it the perfect spot for intimate gatherings or quiet evenings out. With its speakeasy charm and impeccable service, The Library is a destination where every visit feels like a secret adventure waiting to be discovered. Perfect for Girls night.

Nice library, great lighting, and perfect staff.About a month later we had to go again just for the drinks. Expresso martinis is our indulging pleasure there. Richard makes them like noooooo other. If you’re looking for a unique experience, The Library at Detention is the place to go to. Make reservations online and enjoy your evening in this speakeasy bar with delicious and unique handcrafted cocktails. The Robert Smith was so refreshing and the old fashioned was fun to sip on. The bartenders and hostess made us feel welcomed, Service was excellent. Everything about this experience met my expectations for a night out in tower district doing something different. Can’t wait to go back :)

Fantastic experience, my only regret is that I didn't read the book I was eyeing in their library. We will be back!

A unique experience. The owner gave us a history of speakeasies and the probation era set the vibe and then led us into the bar area where we got some great craft cocktails.

Went here for my birthday because I love vintage and a speakeasy was a cool idea. You are first walked to a "waiting area" where a guy gives you the history of a speakeasy. There was a lot of cool historical books on Fresno. He then said if we want drinks weed need to go to the bar which was a completely different room at the end of the hall, after which we got comfortable sitting on the sofas. The bathroom was terrible. No decor, very dirty and looks like they made no effort to renovate it from when it was originally built. One of the bartenders was very nice, I think he was a co-owner and he was friendly. The second bartender was standoffish and rude. He started grabbing my presents and looking at them without my permission. The drinks were not good. I asked for something sweet and they did not deliver. The drinks were expensive and they promote them as handcrafted drinks that take time to make each one, yet the drinks were brought out immediately as if they were pre-made batches. No one in my party liked their drinks and we went elsewhere to enjoy the rest of the night.

Neat place. Nice experience. A lot of high prices. There's a charge per person just to get in, but the "tour" is fun. Still kinda weird that there was a charge to have pictures taken, AFTER the charge to get in. Usually that's covered by entry fee? Then the cocktails... You'd think with such a simple menu, that the prices would be lower, but no. Higher than any other place in fresno. Still, I want to go back. Maybe I missed something. The atmosphere was amazing and the staff was excellent. I want to say it's worth it. I'll be increasing or decreasing my review after my second visit.
Such a fun experience!! The owner of the speakeasy is actually who takes you through the introduction to the bar and is your host as well. He brings his dog to work, we love that. Lots of history and fun things to look at. Very unique drinks and the bartender was awesome. Only $12/drink!! I can see why it’s one of the top speakeasies in the US!
Honestly I had high expectations for this place.Past reviews were good so I went in expecting a good experience. That was not the case. When we arrived and entered the secret door and learned about prohibition things were good. Then they took us to the bar and everything went south quickly. There was a group of guys apparently a bachelor party being extremely LOUD.The dress code didn't apply to them.A few times I had to loudly ask them to move so I could enter our booth. The bartender not sure if he was trying to play a role/part was being unnecessarily passive aggressive. The drink list was nothing to brag aboutFor the amount of money I paid and the experience I received so not worth it.Will not be returning and would think twice about recommending it to others.
The bartender really knew his craft, and the owner was a great guy. His dog stole my heart. The vibe there is just great. Will be back again!
Other than our tour guy being TIRED and half—— the tour, we made the most of this experience! I was intrigued as a child of the prohibition era and thought how neat this surprise was. Thanks, Melissa! Absolutely loved the atmosphere - very intimate and beautiful lighting.
