I haven't been in the Red lantern since 1967 when Virgil owned it with his boyfriend Rick, I remember when they tore down the wall that was connected to the liquor store and put in dance floor, I help them set up the first sound system I was the very first DJ there. I really miss that place I had a lot of good times there if you know what I mean!!! Inside outside haha on the patio. I was looking to see if the express still existed but I didn't see it but I heard there's a new bar called the splash, I don't know if that's where Express used to be or not but it looks like Fresno's really growing up for our gay community I was the first cook in the restaurant at Express, yeah Fresno has some good times for me I hope to come back and visit again soon anyway president love you miss you dance on party like it's 1999 LOL oh yes the last song I used to play at the lantern when I was DJing was we are family and that will never change God bless Fresno!!!

Saturday night is Latin night and you can practice your cumbias, huapango, etc. Lots of fun.

I haven't been to this bar since 2013. I move out of state and moved back and thought I was go visit my old stomping ground. I was so disappointed at the bar service the drinks did not have all the ingredients. Ordered rum and coke, Long Island and AMF. Very awful. Back patio was empty and they played the same old music from back 20 years ago. What was I thinking back then. I will never return again.

Awesome place. It's like a gay "Cheers". Great friendly people. Great atmosphere. Love the bartenders. Especially the new young one, Brady. Then I was privileged to meet the owner Virgil, who opened the bar many years ago! Out shines the other major gay bar in Fresno. Went away feelin' great!! When I am in town, this is the place I'm landin' at.

I really miss this place. I came here for years when my buddy Mike used to run karaoke. I was born and raised in Fresno, I am straight, but the best bars in Fresno are the gay bars, always has been and always will be. I met so many people here and brought so many friends here, too. I moved out of state otherwise, I would still visit any chance I get. This place is like Cheers, where everyone knows your name. I don’t care who you are, weather you are a local or just passing through, this place is the spot, has been for over 30 years, you need to come get your drink on here. I miss this place so bad, the next time I am back in Fresno, you know where I will be. All the years I came here, I never saw the cops here, no need for them. I always felt safe as a woman coming here either alone or with someone. So what it’s not in a good area? I grew up in this area, and I always felt safer then I did at The Fresno Fairgrounds, and that is right down the road!

Your quintessential dive bar, but I've always had a blast when I've gone. A great place to meet and talk as the music isn't overwhelming. Bruce the bartender has always been super sweet and makes a darn good margarita!

Red Lantern is the best LGBTQ bar in Fresno. Great parking, nice bartender, best drink prices, and great music and free snacks on many nights. Clean bathroom and fun dancefloor. Many Tgirls and CDs too which is nice also.
