Took an extra 10$ dollar tip without our consent. Tried calling them and was placed on hold for 10 minutes just to talk to a manger

Our server, Kevin, provided exceptional service, and the manager, Jonny, demonstrated remarkable kindness; we plan to return.

We came here yesterday with a large party during peak hours on the weekend & had a great time with great service. Our server Jason was very attentive & helpful to any questions we had regarding the menu & did an amazing job for helping our large group. The premium menu was great, too 👍

We had one of the worst dining experiences we’ve ever had at this Gen location. From start to finish, it was a mess.

Our waiter was clearly overwhelmed and admitted that the kitchen was so backed up that the order tickets were piling up on the floor. It took about 20 minutes between each meat order, which is made worse by the 4-meat-per-order limit. To top it off, the portions were tiny—just a few pieces per plate—unlike the trays of meat you get at other competing Korean BBQ spots.

What could’ve been a redeeming moment turned into even more frustration. When we got the check, we were initially relieved to see we were only charged for drinks. We tipped our server well, thinking it might be the restaurant’s way of acknowledging the bad service. But after checking, the waiter casually told us, “Oh, the managers are new and messed up.” Any goodwill we felt vanished. We were then charged in full even though we waited over 30 minutes for our final meat order, which never came. At that point, we just left.

Terrible service. Terrible management. Gen used to stand for something better, but this visit showed us how far it’s fallen. We won’t be back.

Definitely would not recommend coming here if you have small children that don’t eat meat or picky eaters . They will not let you bring in their food . Which I found absurd . Never have I ever been to Korean bbq where they don’t allow small children to bring outside food. They did not even let us passed the door because “ no outside food” like it’s he’s just a child . We’re going to pay our food that’s why we come . Definitely would give them zero stars if I was able too .

Great experience! This was my first time coming to Gen's. I've normally been out in Koreatown when I've had Korean BBQ. Kevin was our server, and he was fast, professional and courteous. The food was delicious, and let me tell you, they kept it coming! Our grilles were changed promptly, our table was pre-bussed quickly, and our drinks refilled fast. As a matter of fact, this whole place was hopping with people and the staff was on top of everything. This is definitely a reflection of great management. Thank you for my wonderful first time experience Gen Korean BBQ!

If you’re a fan of Korean BBQ, you’re better off turning around and heading to a place like Mr. BBQ or Wang Cho BBQ—both offer a far better overall experience. Unfortunately, this location leaves a lot to be desired.

The biggest issue here is the service. The staff seems overwhelmed and unprofessional, and it’s clear that being constantly busy has taken a toll. Don’t expect attentive or friendly service—it feels more like you’re an inconvenience than a guest.

As for the food, it’s just okay. Nothing remarkable, but since you’re the one doing the cooking, at least food safety isn’t a major concern. That said, the real disappointment is the restaurant’s overall condition. It looks tired and in desperate need of a renovation. The utensils and plates are especially concerning—I was given a chipped plate, and when I asked for a replacement, the new one was in even worse condition. Most of the dishes I saw looked similarly worn, which is unacceptable even for a casual dining spot.

To top it off, there was a strong smell of chlorine in the air—something no one wants to experience while trying to enjoy a meal.

Sadly, this wasn’t a one-off experience. I visited another location in Riverside and encountered the same problems: poor service, questionable cleanliness, and the same beat-up plates. Maybe it’s part of their “theme,” but if so, it’s a baffling and unappetizing choice.

In short, this place just doesn’t seem to care—and it shows.

Been a patron here for several years and today the service was particularly bad. First we were seated promptly at our table but our server took forever to come to our table it wasn't until I asked the manager where our server was that we were finally greeted by our server. We requested forks from our server and he informed us that they had run out. I insisted we needed forks, the restaurant has half full, and after a few minutes our server found forks.

One of the worst place I’ve ever been. The staff were really unprofessional. The receptionist checks us off the waiting list right in front of us after we let them know we are still waiting and this after the app tells us they are ready for us to be seated. The server was literally dragging his feet for every order we asked for and had to repeatedly ask several times to see if item we asked is coming.
