I really enjoyed vegan tenders. I'm so glad the menu was so v-friendly as it's in the middle of nowhere. Delicious fries as well.

Had a really nice dinner with the family, the salmon was tasty and so were the spare ribs. The wedge salad was a bit simple and needs a bit more love and attention. The people complaining about the price have never eaten in Las Vegas or any other major city I guess....... Thanks for a wonderful evening at a unique location guys!

There are not many dining opportunities in Death Valley National Park, so I assume it's lack of competition that has led to lackluster offerings and high prices at the Last Kind Words Saloon. The chili was unexpectedly filled with carrots. Yes, carrots. And it wasn't vegetarian chili. There were far more chunks of carrots than beans, tomatoes, or beef. The saloon atmosphere is phenomenal, but not enough to override the mediocre food.

We had a good meal here. Both the food and service were nice. Highly recommend that you make reservations ahead of time. Very unique theme as well. It was pricey but not more that expected for being in the middle of Death Valley National Park.

A bar and dine in place which is very lively .. there were music going on in outdoor area.. open till 10 pm whereas other places close by 9 pm.

We visited here during our American road trip all the way from Wales, UK. Oliver was absolutely amazing!!! Super helpful explaining the menu to us and got us our drinks really fast. The food was tasty and presented well. On top of serving their own section, I noticed Oliver supporting the rest of the team and helping them when they needed it. It was obvious that Oliver is very passionate about giving great service. We would definitely return if we ever visit Death Valley in the future!

Oliver our server was very kind and welcoming. They explained the menu very clearly and told us about what veg and potatoes that were available. And was constantly checking in and making sure everything was to our satisfaction. Would come again if we were in Death Valley ever again. Oliver was brilliant and their praises should be noticed. Worst dish I had in any restaurant for the last 10 years or so. Waited extremely long to receive a steak I ordered as Medium that came completely grey and dry. Should have come with Fries and vegetables and came with only half cooked potatoes and strange zucchini bites.

Nice atmosphere and friendly service. As for the food: I ordered a 10oz steak for $55, cooked medium rare. Unfortunately, it was served well done instead. Very disappointing!

Not sure why the low reviews, but we had dinner here twice and the food was amazing, I couldn’t recommend it more. It’s the same with the other restaurant at The Ranch that has low reviews, I have a feeling that something has changed as the food these days is great.

Edit: you have to try the fried cheesecake!

Ate here twice during our time in Death Valley and the food was very good! They even had a number of vegetarian and vegan options that were delicious.

We came here to celebrate a 65th birthday and it turned into a completely embarrassing and extremely expensive disappointment. We were six people and spent 570 dollars. For this kind of quality, that’s an absolute joke.
If it were possible, I would give zero stars!!!!!
The flat iron steak was a disaster. Dark grey, completely overcooked and totally flavorless why even ask for the level of doneness if this is what you serve? It looked like it had been reheated in a microwave.
The New York steak for 55 dollars came with so-called “vegetables” that didn’t deserve the name. Old, soggy zucchini with no taste at all. We specifically asked if we could get more vegetables instead of fries we were told yes. What did we get? Nothing. Completely ignored. That’s not how you treat guests.

The pasta with tomato and asparagus was an absolute joke. The menu says “with asparagus” in reality there was maybe ONE piece of asparagus in it, if that. No sauce, no creaminess, just dry pasta. That’s simply misleading.
The salmon was completely overcooked and so dry that the protein had already come out inedible. No kitchen should ever serve something like that.

I trained as a chef for four years what’s being served here is just unacceptable on every level.
My partner summed it up perfectly: the steak was drier than the salt flats.
The waiter (bald) showed zero interest, didn’t respond to anything, and clearly didn’t care at all. Service: nonexistent.
Conclusion: overpriced, careless, badly cooked, and service that simply doesn’t care. A restaurant operating like this does not deserve these prices.

What a fantastic place, even if options are somewhat limited out in the desert. First and foremost, what truly made our experience was Josh, our bartender and waiter. He knew a remarkable amount about Dutch football, Ajax and Feyenoord, and we had an absolute blast talking with him. He genuinely made our Death Valley trip. Josh, if you're reading this: thank you so much.

The food was excellent. We had a burger that was perfectly cooked, tasty, and came with great fries. The restaurant was quiet, the staff were very friendly, and the food and drinks came out quickly. Service was top notch. The interior is also something else. There is more than enough to look at inside.

One thing worth knowing: when the bill arrives, a 15% gratuity is already included. You can add more on top of that, so keep an eye on it. That said, Josh had more than earned every cent.

If I ever make it back to the valley, which is very likely, I will absolutely return to The Last Kind Word Saloon and hope get such great food, and to run into Josh again. 🙃
