We were heading north after a rough night in a hotel down south. It was my wife’s birthday, and the day started off wrong. In Garberville, we saw a little café on the corner and decided to go in. That was so many years ago. I’ve got good memories of that day. I don’t go back often now, and each time it’s a little less. Someday, I won’t go back at all. But that’s just how life goes.

Please, do yourself a favor and stop here. Small local gems like this are a vanishing breed, and this place is the real deal. My first thought was that I had stepped back in time based on the decor alone. Then add in truly kind and efficient service, immaculate everything, and food that literally tasted like childhood. If you are a chili fan, I cannot recommend a cup of this strongly enough. Perfectly seasoned, plenty of cheese and onions. Patrons and servers joke around good naturedly, but we as strangers were warmly welcomed. Garberville, you guys have a treasure here. We’ll be back.

A fantastic hometown Cafe. I got the fish and chips and my dad got the country fries steak. Everything came put piping hot! My fish was super crispy and juicy, the fries were crispy and fluffy! The tartar sauce was so lemony and creamy! The staff were super friendly, getting regulars by name, and chatting with us too even though we aren't from here. Just a wonderful place to stop after camping in the lost coast!

The Eel River Cafe in Garberville is one of the most beautiful 1950s diner relics I have ever seen. It reminds me of many great films, with the great service counters and the pretty booths that look similar to train carriages with a table. In addition, the Eel River Cafe is extremely lovingly decorated and is run as a family business. We both chose a salad with nachos, tomatoes, onions, avocado, beef, cheese and salsa and sour cream. Everything was 100% fresh and, according to the information, everything was locally produced. The portion was also so large that we decided quite early on not to eat any more of the crispy nachos in order to devote ourselves to the rest of the salad. We had a great lunch here, enjoyed the authentic ambience and the fine food and had a great chat with the very friendly lady who served us. Such places absolutely need to be preserved. We realized that the owner family is fully committed to this. The full restaurant showed us that we are on the right track here. Congratulations! ?
I'm not sure if I should be rating this place against other diners or michelin 3 star restaurants. But it's a great diner in the middle of a sparsely populated stretch of highway. Well worth stopping if you're in the area or passing through.
The staff was great. The menu was better than you might expect. i didn't pay too much. I'm going back the next time I drive through town.
