Delicious yakitori + reasonable price + busy hot place vibe.
Delicious yakitori at a very reasonable price with that lively, busy hot spot vibe—it’s easy to see why this place is popular. The food itself was great once it arrived, and I’d definitely come back for the taste alone.
The only downside was the service. Our server seemed either inexperienced or just overwhelmed with too many tables. Orders came out very slowly, and a couple of mistakes were made with what we ordered. It was a bit frustrating, especially since everything else about the restaurant was so enjoyable.
If the service improves, this would easily be a 5-star spot for me.

More locals than influencers, which I appreciate. Skewers arrive fast—chicken thigh, beef tongue, shishito—each with a nice char. Draft beer is crisp and cold, and the vibe is lively without being chaotic. You can sit at the bar and watch the grill. Good for small groups that like to order rounds.

The ramen is AWFUL. They use, what I believe, is buckwheat noodles. The taste and consistency are that of higher end instant noodles. They were the color of dijon mustard. I knew something was up when they didn't ask me if I wanted my noodles firm or soft. I question if this is actually an official Shinsengumi. NEVER AGAIN.

Outstanding food, outstanding value, excellent service from Tyler, Steven and the entire staff. Worth the 45+ mile drive! Need one in the IE!

I've been looking forward to trying this place, but my expectations were short lived. Service was poor. The food took a very long time to come out. When it did finally arrive, the server would bring one yakitori skewer at a time, about five minutes apart. I spent $230, but I left regretting my decision to try this place.
Best yakitori and had to drive all the way from San Fernando Valley 🤤🤤🤤
Fast, friendly service. Fun space. Reasonable prices. Delicious grilled goodies. And according to my friend who lived in Japan for a couple years, it's the real deal. We will be back, soon!
Took a couple friends out for yakitori and beer, and we decided on this place. We arrived in the evening, around 8:00 pm and were seated at a table immediately. Inside, there’s a casual, relaxed vibe, and the staff are very friendly and inviting.
Not my first time eating yakitori, but it was for my friends, so we ordered a nice mix of yakitori standards including negima tare (chicken thigh & green onion w/ sauce) and tsukune (meatball). While negima tare is a favorite of mine, I also ordered kawa (chicken skin), gyutan (beef tongue) and hatsu (heart). These choices offer a different taste and texture from the usual chicken thigh or breast.
They also had specials and the staff made some recommendations. We decided to try the Mille-bare Maki (pork belly and onion skewer with a sweet miso sauce) and a pork belly wrapped shiitake skewer. They were both delicious, especially the Mille-bare Maki, which we ended up ordering more of!
Overall, I would highly recommend Shin-Sen-Gumi! We had a great time, the food was excellent, good beer (Sapporo, my favorite!), and super friendly, attentive staff!
I’ve always said the char-grilled taste of yakitori with beer is tough to beat, and this is a great spot!

Terrible service.
Kid-friendliness: anti-child, anti-family establishment. actively dissuading people with children from entering.

Horrible- they charged us for the $60 set and gave us the $50 set meat instead. The shrimp was also very small and not the head on shrimp as depicted in the menu. Super disappointed by the staff as well who played loud videos on their cellphones in the background. It seems clear to me that they're taking unfair advantage of customers. Would not recommend.

Always a must go when in L A. They don't take reservations, and it's 1st come, but well worth it. The grilled intestines are the best.

Food is absolutely amazing! We had the ramen, the noodle plate, and a chicken and a beef bowl. Everything was really good, the wait was not long at all, the staff was very nice and friendly! Definitely check this place out!
