The vegan donuts were really great! I bought the regular glazed, chocolate icing covered, and a berry icing (I forget what it was called 😂 BUT IT WAS DELICIOUS!)
I had a glowing review before, but I had to update it today. I’ve been a weekly, sometimes daily customer of this bakery since I discovered it a month ago or so, but this morning I walk in and the attendant not only doesn’t turn around to acknowledge me when I walked in, when she does, I say good morning and she says nothing but gives a half grin like I just interrupted her vibe. I thanked her after my purchase, barely a grunt in return. This was the coldest service I’ve received in a while, to the point where it was awkward. I will not return, which is heartbreaking, but I don’t play that.

I called to order a pie the day before and I paid for it over the phone. Then the person I sent to go pick it up also had to pay for the pie. Absolutely unacceptable, I called and emailed to confirm the pie order and inscription but nothing was done. They said there was no contact information, but I had emails with them and called them. Terrible service. Ruined my boyfriend's birthday. DO NOT GO HERE IF YOU HAVE AN IMPORTANT EVENT! They gaslight me saying there is no proof of the call. I had proof of calls, proof of emails, but they said they have no record of me contacting them and paying for the pie when it shows on my card statement.

I've been going to this bakery since I was in 5th grade . I'm currently 31 years old. They used to be my favorite for donuts which are still good but the cakes are disappointing. For donuts I've tried nearly every kind and have not been disappointed. Their cre has a wonderful filling as well as their jelly . They also offer unique flavors like blueberry icing for some of their donuts. The problem came when I ordered a gender reveal cake for a monday. They made it 2 days early and by the time I picked it up it was incredibly dry . The icing and filling they use is too sweet . I had high expectations after coming here for years but I left very disappointed. Will not be ordering cake from there again. I have also gotten their cheesecakes in the past and they are subpar . I ended up going to whole food last and it was much better. Maybe my expectations were too high.

After shopping around Camino Real Marketplace, I had some time to spare and decided to stroll into Anna’s Marketplace Bakery. What a delightful find! The bakery is both charming and inviting, with incredibly friendly staff. I tried their gluten-free chocolate chip cookie, and it was, without a doubt, the best I’ve had to date. Whether you’re gluten-free or simply enjoy high-quality baked goods, this bakery is a must-visit. I look forward to returning and exploring more of their offerings!

This is a long overdue 5 star review. I've been going to Anna's since they were in the Fairview Plaza, over 30 years ago. While I've tried a number of their donuts and muffins, the one thing that stands out for me is their Apple Fritter.
IMO Anna's Apple Fritter is the best fritter on planet Earth! It's the perfect combination of cinnamon, apples, pastry and glaze - baked crunchy on the outside and perfectly tender in the middle. It's not too sweet - just the right balance of everything. I think what sets it apart from **every other fritter** is that they twist the dough creating many little cracks and pockets for flavor to nestle, and for it to bake up with uniquely pleasant "doneness".
I lived in Boston for a time, in part spent a year away from my family. When my birthday rolled around, my wife (in Santa Barbara) asked me what I wanted being so far away. The only thing I asked for was Apple Fritters from Anna's. She Fedex'd me 20 Apple Fritters in an insulated box. It was heaven! I shared them with friends at work and had enough to freeze for another month.
Whatever happens with Anna's in the future, I hope their Fritter recipe and technique never gets lost. Their Apple Fritter is what makes Anna's truly special and unique to me. Although I must say - they simply make the best donuts in general than any other shop in town. Compare for yourself!
PS - they make them Vegan now too!
Vegetarian options: Anna's makes many of their fine American pastries as vegan - a great option for those with dairy intolerance. I have a family member that is challenged with that and Anna's has been a great source for dessert pleasure!
