Casa Las Katarinas has been one of our longtime favorites—ever since the days in Nevada City with the original owners, David and Delia. Since their move down to Alta Sierra, the magic has only grown. The new owners, Barbara M. and David M., have elevated everything while keeping the heart of the place intact. And the staff? They feel like family. Amy and Dakota are truly the best—warm, attentive, and always smiling. The food is authentically and consistently delicious. Their chile rellenos (baked, not fried!) are perfection, and the fish tacos are flat-out unbelievable. Whenever my family comes up from Silicon Valley, Casa Las Katarinas is always our first stop. From my veggie wife, to our vegan daughters, to our meat-loving sons-in-laws—everyone finds something they love. Absolutely a must-go. One of those rare places that just keeps getting better.

My family and I have been going to Las Katarina's for many years because we live in Alta Sierra and it's very convenient. Unfortunately something unexpected happened and we had a terrible experience twice! The first time I was very understanding. Dakota said the chef was coming back from one week vacation and a flop occurred with our order. My chimichanga, which I've gotten for years wasn't cooked and not crispy. My brother's beef in his burrito was chunky and dry and not appetizing. I called Dakota to tell him what we experienced and he assisted that we order again so he could rewrite their mistake. I agreed and told him it wasn't going to be for a while. I called a couple weeks later and Dakota didn't really understand what I was saying until I told him that I was calling about the chimichangas. He remembered and assured me that he understood my order. I specifically asked for fish tacos for my mom but I told him he didn't have to charge me for that because they were great, same with my son's Mexican rice. We arrived and Dakota brought my order out at the drive-thru stating that he added extra sauce for my brother's burrito bowl. I paid $20 for my mom's fish tacos and my son's Mexican rice. Dakota said that the four churros were on the house included with the chimichanga and my brother's burrito bowl. I was shocked when I came home to find two chicken chimichangas when I specifically ordered beef for myself! The fish tacos were not in my order for my mom, which is unfortunate because she loves their fish tacos! My brother's chorizo burrito bowl was super salty so unfortunately he couldn't eat it. I don't understand. I've been in the restaurant business myself and I feel like this mistake was intentional. It's unfortunate because I really enjoyed Las Katarinas and the food they had to offer. I hope the chef didn't spit in our food! I didn't eat it because again the dough was a bit raw, which is what happened in the beginning of this whole ordeal. Unfortunately they have lost four customers. We will not be returning. Thank you for reading my post and I hope the same does not happen to you. I am highly disappointed!! 😞

We just moved to the area about a year and a half ago from the LA area (Nor cal transplant returning). I have had lots of Mexican food. I have also been to many parts of Mexico. I know what I like and I really like this place. Funny enough the first time we came in we waited 45 minutes for our food. But it was Valentine’s Day and it was kind of busy. They brought our check and I said but we have not received our meal. The server looked horrified and got it to us as soon as possible. Normally this would prompt a bad review and a never to return. But the food was so good and staff so friendly we eat there 1 to 2 times a month. Not enough to be considered regulars but it is a lot for us to frequent a place that often. I would highly recommend this place to anyone

Good food, but we waited over a hour for tacos. Place was empty too. Don’t come if you’re in a rush but the food was tasty!

Below average food. The service wasn't great. The only thing this place had going for it was the tasty salsa.

I've been there many times, and I've enjoyed the ambiance. We went there for a quick lunch last week, and I was really disappointed. They raised their prices, and it was way too expensive for what we got. We paid $19 for a taco, beans and rice. The service was great, but I'm sorry that we will not be eating there again.

Excellent Mexican food. The Chips were hot and we were able to get extra salsa. The Marguerita my partner ordered was very tasty. Overly large portions were great. We took home some leftovers.
