Wonderful place, wonderful staff.
Been coming here for ages now.
It is an unusual setup but it's the food that's the star.
Get there early, wait for parking, make sure to ask questions before ordering.

This restaurant is standing alone in the middle of office buildings. There’s no other restaurants nearby and pretty small. Just 10-15 tables. I ordered the hot & sour ramen soup and spicy seafood one I can't remember the name! But it was super flavorful!.💯👍🏻 Also got some appetizers of mixed tempura. The noodles are delicious here! We ordered another noodle on the side. I’d recommend coming to try they had a big menu! It’s unique and can’t really find these elsewhere. It’s also filling! Keep in mind, you will have to wait for a bit. Parking is also limited. I gotta come back to try the other noodles! Just got only one picture cuz when they served it I can't wait and I realized when all the noodles are gone!🤣
Highly recommended 💯

The service sucks now. I can see why there was no line and that fewer people were eating during lunch

Never tasted sour gyoza nor sour mushroom in shio ramen before in my entire 2 years in Japan. I hope I don't get sick.
The spirit of omotenashi is not present.

This place deserves a 5-star rating more than any other Japanese restaurant in Southern California. Having lived in Japan for over five years, I can say the food here tastes like it was brought straight from Japan. For example, their curry has the flavor of a Japanese late-night kitchen, like something from a home-cooked meal. Their fried chicken tastes just like the kind you get at an izakaya in Japan. Unlike many Japanese restaurants in the U.S., which often lack oversight from local Japanese patrons and focus more on raising prices and hype, this place puts its energy into maintaining authentic Japanese flavors. That’s why every time I come here, I savor the meal even more—I don’t know how long it will stay this way. The atmosphere also gives off that old-school Showa-era vibe.
Their ramen is also better than that of many Japanese-style ramen shops around here, which I find both impressive and almost laughable.

******FOO FOO TEI IS UNDER NEW OWNERSHIP
First of all, we went at noon time on a Saturday, if you’ve been here in the past, you’ll know the lines out of the door and it’s not unusual to wait in line for 45 min to an hour.
Not today. only half of the restaurant was full.
We ordered take out. the person who took our phone call says since we ordered more than 6 items she asks us to leave a tip.
Mind you, my family has been coming to this restaurant for more than 20 years. Ate at the restaurant, take out.
the person in charge was so rude, we put 0 on tip. She chased us out to ask for tip, for takeout order. She says they don’t charge a service fee, but ask to leave a tip.
Food tastes different.
this is under a new ownership, we didn’t see any familiar faces at all. All new staff. I no longer recommend this establishment. Please stay away. Sadly, We will not be coming back

Extremely disappointed. We found a sticker label inside the salad — yes, an actual price tag. When we told the staff, there was no real apology or concern, just a quick offer to bring another salad like it was nothing. No manager came by, and they only took 3 dollars off the bill. This is a serious food safety issue, and the way it was handled was unacceptable. Definitely not coming back.

Found a price tag in our salad. Staff just took it away with no apology or real explanation. They casually offered to replace the salad, but didn’t seem to take it seriously. In the end, they only deducted $3 from the bill. We still paid and even tipped — but honestly, we shouldn’t have. Extremely disappointed with how Foo Foo Tei handled this. Terrible service and food safety standards. Won’t be back.

It HAD BEEN One of the best Japanese eateries in California until my last visit a year ago.
I suspect the ownership has been changed and I don't hear the chef's favorite songs by Southern All Stars from the kitchen anymore.
Chef Carlos is missing something in his ingredients.
Umami Ramen is missing umami, curry is now sweater and spicier, and where is my favorite near frozen sake anymore?
Too sad, too bad.
