security at Safeway Foothill Blvd Hayward is a joke. They sit around in the handicap carts talking on their cellphones, half asleep and have no common courtesy! they need to hire a new security company or have their own security staff, the security they have now is disgraceful.

NO wipes to clean your cart ever... even if you ask it's ignored. Guess they all wanna pass germs and illness around.

Avoid at all costs. I thought I was going to have to fight my out of Safeway. After standing at the deli for 10 minutes with no help. I decided to leave. There was no way out of the building. You have to navigate a maze. The security guard actually stood in my way when I was trying to exit. They blocked everything and you have to go through check points like your a prisoner.

I understand society has gone to hell but the security measures are over the top these days. I really don't like shopping at any stores that has everything all locked up & now all these bars & showing receipts to get outta self checkout make this store a firm no for me & it sucks cuz I live across the street from it! I just drive on down to Lucky's now cuz I think not!!

Security at this location has gotten excessive, but it's keeping the customers safe. Today I was purchasing a sandwich for a homeless man and he was standing in line waiting patiently and quietly. An older woman of Asian decent was helped before the homeless man. When I addressed it with the staff, Rosa, she said no she was first. I noted I was standing there and saw it. She said well she's older. I said yea I understand that but you don't need to dismiss someone else because you look down on them. When I tried to tell the manager Chris, he said ok and walked away. His response was dismissive and not reassuring that the matter would be addressed with Rosa (making sandwiches).Rosa then told Chris that I was lying. I said this was not appropriate customer service. Being rude to customers is not good for business.

Terrible! Really, really got to watch out for glitches in their cash registers. So many times have I found mistakes. Please check your receipts. Most recent was, Royal Crown soda was, "buy 2, get 3 free." Was charged for all 5, $49.00. Then when you bring it to their attention, they take it personal as if you are attacking them. The cashier was Carlos and he was rude and seemed more concerned on how quickly he scanned instead of accuracy. My milk was leaking, 2 meat wrappings were open. He said i could just run back there and exchange them. Please, I am 75 years old, I cannot just "run back there." He didn't bather to ask for assistance. When I was finished, the customer behind me asked if I needed help to my car. Then and only then did he ask if I needed help. Packs 2-6 packs in a plastic bag. Who does that? Castro Valley Safeway is the best but unfortunately Foothill is close to my home. Please notice most of the other reviews here. So sad! As for their managers........don't get me started. Totally unprofessional. I just don't understand how in the world they keep their positions. Go figure!

Maria is super rude and unprofessional. Needs to be check by management. Her demeanor and attitude is not up to par with providing excellent customer experience

5 stars if not more for the staff here. I never have problems when this store runs out of things because the staff is always so very kind to accommodate and even go out of their way to make sure I get what I need. There was even a time when Michael in the meat department placed a special order to their shipping department to get me the item I was specifically looking for that they were out of! What other place does that these days? Other Safeway locations sometimes give me a hard time about asking for a rain check, but this location never gives me a problem and is reliable. The management here is superb, so I don't mind going out my way to come here.

The place seems to be in a bad area. there are a lot of homeless people loitering in the parking lot and people trying to sell you stuff as you try to go into the market. As I walked through the store I was bombarded by foul smells in both the bakery and on the opposite end in the produce. It smelled like rotting food and farts. Definitely not the best Safeway in the area. The security guard seemed miserable and in a bad mood.

Starbucks guy made me wait and didn't seem like he wanted to take my order so I left after 10 mins. There was no one in front of me and he looked at me funny. Avoid this store in general it's just bad privileged vibes and a lot of hints of racism from employees. Happened March 1st, 2023 10:35am

This place has funny associates at self check out. They are helpful and relatively quick. Always has great deals

The location is great, very convenient near the freeway, and the produce here is fresh. The pharmacy staff are friendly, which is one of the only reasons I still go here. The Safeway on Jackson and the Lucky's on mission don't feel clean, and the Safeway in Castro Valley that I prefer most days (they stock the protein powder I put in my coffee) is a bit too far away if I just need to stop in and get milk and a few things for dinner. This used to be my primary grocery store, but.... Ever since Covid, they walled off the central section with the wine and medicines and personal care, forcing you to go through a separate checkout to buy anything there and has the whole area covered by security cameras. I've got social anxiety and I also hate any store that assumes up front that I'm a thief. If I need to buy shampoo or toothpaste (maybe they're hiding the protein powder in there too), I will drive out of my way to shop somewhere else rather than deal with that. None of the other stores do this. Did this place have that much of a problem with thieves that forced them to make it this much harder for normal customers to buy things? I keep expecting they'll change it back now that the pandemic has calmed down, but it's been years.

I came in today to pick up some steaks for lunch and boy it was a big disappointment when I got home. As you can see in the picture the steaks does not look very fresh at all. Actually it was borderline disgusting. Nobody like steaks in rainbow colors. This is how people get food poisoning. Frankly, I don't even know how this pack got in the rotation. The meat department needs to do a better job in ensuring that the meat is fresh and remove all this rotten junk out of the counter. At the store the meat look like it was in good condition when I picked it up. But when I got home and flipped it over to season it that's when I saw the yellowish and grey colors on it. My advice for you is to double check it before you buy it. Look at it closely because you'll end up wasting money on bad quality food here.
