We ordered a variety of their recommended dishes including a noodle soup and goat dish. My favorite is still their chicken tikka masala with garlic naan. The tikka masala is a bit thicker in consistency and their naan is slightly sweet, which adds a nice twist.

So glad I found this little restaurant on Bst Hayward. We were there around 6:30pm Monday night Awesome dinner. We enjoyed and shared: the Chicken C Momo nice and crunchy not to spicy. Thakali Thali Goat ( came with awesome black lentils, black eye peas w/potatoes, mustard greens and pickled veggies) It was enough to share but we added, Butter chicken to make it a dinner meal and ordered two naan. We did end up ordering extra rice but had leftovers for one lunch. It's a soft opening w/ grand opening on March 21. I liked that it was not typical Indian food. It didn't have that heavy ghee base and didn't feel like there was a lot of cumin. We talked with the owner, he was very pleasant and helpful with describing the dish.Definitely will be back. There are two lunch specials: Vegetarian Thakali $14.99 and Non Veg Thakali ( choice of meat) $16.99Hope they get more customers.

Chili Chicken is my new favorite! I also loved the samosas. I'm so lucky to have it in walking distance from my job. It makes going into the office an experience that I look forward to every time.

Excellent and authentic. If you want real Napali cuisine, must try the goat "dal bhatt". Also loved the momos (like potstickers). Service was also excellent and enjoyable (thank you Swati!!). Very casual environment but great food.

Gurkha Kitchen offers a truly authentic menu of Nepali food, whose flavors brought me back to my travels in that country! The most typical daily meal there was the Thakali Thali, a set meal of rice, raayo ko saag (chopped mustard greens), spiced potatoes, a creamy black lentil soup, aloo bodi tama (a sour soup of bamboo, potato, and black-eyed peas), and a choice of curry. I had the Goat Curry, made of meaty chunks of bone-in goat in a spiced onion gravy. All of the items on the thali came together nicely, though my favorite component was the creamy black lentil soup. You could even get unlimited refills on any item (except the meat curry)--just like in Nepal! While the Thakali Thali made for a delicious meal, my favorite item was the Jhol Buff Momo, or steamed dumplings with a doughy skin containing a filling of ground spiced buffalo, all served in a creamy, sweet, acidic, and spicy tomato and chili broth. Finally, we also had the Nepali Khaja Set, which came with a mixture of beaten dried rice mixed with soybeans, tomato, onion, cilantro, and scallions, and served with a choice of meat. The Chicken Choila was made of chunks of white meat chicken tossed in a Himalayan spice mixture; and the Badel Sadeko were crispy slices of wild boar mixed with ginger, garlic, and spices. Eating the beaten rice mixture and meat really gave your jaws a workout, but there was so much delicious flavor to be extracted. Overall, the food here was as authentic Nepali as you can get in the Bay Area. The service was friendly, the casual atmosphere was clean and comfortable, and everything came at a good value too!

Delicious! We tried the buffalo momo dumplings. Love the sauce they come with. Not too spicy. Stopped by here right after the farmers market. Hit the spot! We will be back.

I happened upon this lovely restaurant one day while meandering through Hayward when a man dressed in colorful array invited me in to pray over its soft opening. His ceremony was so beautiful and I wish this restaurant well. The Chai tea is spicy, warm, delicious and served, most importantly, with love and hospitality. This afternoon, I ordered moma which was terrific and priced fairly. The sauce was spicy with back notes that surprised my palate pleasantly. I drank some cool water. I didn't have to request it, and service was patient, attentive and sweet. My lunch partner ordered the garlic Naan and a red cheesy chatpate sauce. I admit to slurping what she couldn't finish with a spoon. You should give this place a try. It looks like, in the summer, one can enjoy people watching while sampling some authentic Nepali food from The Ghurka Kitchen's fenced in outside sidewalk extension to it restaurant.Bon appetit
