Just went again recently! This is one of the few hamburger restaurants that will cook your meat the way you like it. 1/2 burger with Cheddar cheese, Medium. I always enjoy going back.

At the suggestion of a friend, who grew up here, I decided to drive to Hayward, CA and try a burger place called Val's Burgers. They've been in business since 1958, but like many small Mom & Pop places, Covid restrictions has them almost down and out. They no longer have any dine-in options and will only accept cash.
I spoke with George, the 2nd Generation owner (Val's son) and his daughter. They both had a sad aura about them. Like they're witnessing the last dying breath of a cherished loved one. It broke my heart. Such nice people being run out of business by greedy heartless politicians.
My friend was right, it was the best burger and fries I have had in a very long time. If you're in the area, support these very nice people and have possibly the best burger you've ever eaten.

Delicious shakes, burgers, and fries! I've been coming here as a kid and while the hours and atmosphere have changed, the food is still just as incredible. Shoutout to the super nice waitress who took my order.

Open 2days per week, cash only and orders must be called in. It a lot to take but the burgers are really good. Before Covid, one could actually go inside to place an order. Perhaps the minute and thirty seconds of eye candy brining your order will be the balance for the obstacles…. Up to you ?

Nostalgia wasn't a great reason to deal with their limited hours, barely existent menu, and still closed dining area. People there were nice, but it's either time to reopen, sell, or close.

I grew up going here and always make it a stop when I'm in the area. After being away for so long I was sad to see that they have a limited menu, are only doing takeaway and are cash only now. Go before you can't!

Still the best burgers (and onion rings) in town. We miss dining inside but glad we can still get the juicy burgers and onion rings. Dining inside never resumed after COVID which is a bummer. The menu is also very limited now…really miss the handmade shakes and malts.Tip: Order when you arrive at the parking lot. I ordered ahead of time one one occassion and my bun was pretty soggy. Come hungry (only mama and papa burgers available) and bring cash! A mama bacon cheeseburger and onion rings ran me $32.

The service was quick and simple. However the burger was okay. The meat was cooked to perfection however that's it. The rest is just not stuff I would add onto a burger.

I lived in the East Bay for 20 years. I would go to Val's early on Sat for breakfast when I would either have a Denver Omelet or steak & eggs. If I were taking a long day trip it would be the steak since that would last until I got home. When I would walk in the lady at the counter would ask "Denver or steak?" Sometimes I would have a chocolate shake for breakfast since their shakes are, or were excellent. I moved away from the area around 20 years ago, I've always compare every place to Val's & none came close.

Val's burgers and fries are superlative! I try to plan my trips from Seattle to include a Friday or Saturday (the only days Val's is open in 2023) just to have delicious burgers and fries. Right now it's takeout only with a limited menu but there are a couple of outdoor tables in case you don't live close enough to enjoy the yummy food while it's hot.Do your tummy a favor and give Val's a try. You'll be very glad you did!SueAnn from Seattle

They no longer have indoor dining, but they had 3 outdoor tables & chairs out on side of the building as an option. The burgers were terrific (momma burger was huge 1/2lb beef patty). French fries was a very large portion enough for 2-3 people.Cash only with limited menu of momma/Pappa burgers (cheese & fixings options), French fries-one size, assorted drinks, cola drinks were Shasta Cola..no coke or Pepsi products. All in all our burgers & fries, soft drinks were very good!
