The one at South Coast Plaza is a million times better, but this one is closer. The clam chowder is the same and delicious at both places. The service, kindness of the staff and freshness of the salads is better at So Coast.

This place almost feels like it needs to decide if it’s a bakery or a fast casual spot. Food is surprisingly good. Only real issue is it’s slightly overpriced like everything else on Beach Blvd.

This place never disappoints. My main reason for going is the clam chowder in a bread bowl, but when I venture to try other things, they are always delicious. I particularly enjoy the French dip they offer. You really can’t go wrong with any of the sandwiches or salads. The interior is inviting with plentiful seating options both inside and out on a patio. The patio is against a pretty noisy parking lot, though. Restrooms are locked with a code, so you’ll have to ask someone for it.
Parking: Very cramped parking. Try to use public transit instead.

I tried the Boudin bakery on Huntington Beach. It was worth the three hour round trip (to be honest, the trip WOULD have been only two hours had not Google Maps sent me all round Robin Hood's barn to get there from Marina del Rey).
I just went for the baked goods -- I picked up two of the twelve back sourdough dinner rolls and one 1.5 pound sourdough round -- and so far, the rolls are ALMOST as good as the Boudin Bakery products in the San Francido Bay area (they were a bit drier and chewier -- still very good, but there was a bit of room for improvement in the batch that I got.
This SLIGHT (and it is SLIGHT) difference between what I know Boudin has done up North, and what I tasted in the first batch of rolls, is the ONLY reason I did not rate them as a 5 for food. The SoCal bakery still warrants many repeat visits (even a three hour round trip is to be preferred to a seven hour one-way trip to San Francisco).
I'll be back for more when thus purchase is eaten. But it will be a while before my hunger for sourdough overcomes my reluctance to spend multiple hours driving SoCal freeways (this is NOT a criticism of Boudin). Say, 1 - 2 weeks.
